So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Fire Grady Little?!?! What a mistake! All of us in Yankee Nation are saddened by his passing....by all means, hire the "Rem-canine"...he's got even less major-league experience than Little..although, Eckersley is another "great choice"...what a bufoon....get over yourself dude! GO YANKEES!!!!

Grady made that huge mistake, but there were many many others throughout the play-offs. Almost is for losers...for most of us long-suffering Red Sox fans...we want a championship! With a 106 million dollar payrolll, making the play-offs and losing isn't like that isn't good enough!

What is basis for decision ? - he was in no win situation on Pedro in or out - Knuckleballer in xininngs was perhaps more suspect; - about Boston fans - ask Peter Gammons - he said it all on T Kornheiser show last week.

I'll admit Grady did a good Job. If the Red Sox were to beat the Yankees the Red Sox would have "easily" beaten the Marlins. But..as for a new Red Sox Manager, maybe Jim Fergosi or Don Baylor.

Grady Little's fate was sealed long ago, well before the playoffs. His handling of the Martinez situation in the 8th of game 7 just highlighted the problem. He was a man who could not make the difficult decision and overrule his ace. Martinez has the heart of a champion and always has. Of course he didn't want to come out of the game! But the manager should have been able to take the ball and tell him: "You pitched your heart out there. Thanks, the bullpen will take it from here." Grady didn't do this. What resulted was tragic and sealed his fate. I hope the next manager is one who is strong enough to handle the volatile personalities and the cut throat media and fan scrunity. Please don't take the job, Jerry Remy! You'll only regret it!

In my opinion, there was no REAL Quandary here. With the most potent offense baseball has EVER seen, to win 95 games is no huge accomplishment. As someone who watched 130+ games this year, (to the dismay of my wife) I submit that while early the bullpen was disastrous, many games were won IN SPITE of grady's managerial buffoonery. He may well be remembered only for the game 7 gaffe, but most of us who watched more than just the playoffs will remember many moves that left us scratching our heads AS THEY HAPPENED, saying over and over "stupid is as stupid does". Was Grady Little a great personnel manager? absolutely. Was Grady little on the short list of worst on-field tacticians ever? Absolutely. This was a move that not only should have been made, but HAD to be made.

I'd like to see Jerry Remy manage this team. I like what I've heard from him in the booth and he understands the game and knows our pain. We need a smart baseball person managing the day-to-day and he could do it.

Jerry Remy seems perfect. He is well-liked, knows the team inside and out, and nobody is on the fans' side more than he is. Perfect PR move.

Given the stability Grady brought to the clubhouse and the turmoil that is likely to ensue due to contract status of numerous players this does not seem to be the time to make this move-regardless of the rational behind it. The last great Red Sox team of the middle to late 70s only garnered one trip to the world series. Contract squabbles, and poor relations with the Manager (Good old Don Zimmer) led this team to under achieve. The window for this team, if not closed is certianly closing. Contract status for Lowe, Varitek, Garciaparra, Martinez, Timlin, Walker, Ortiz if not resolved, will hang over the heads of the organization as talk of trading players before they can walk away will consume the team. Grady for his tactical limitations, would have been the person best suited to guide the ship during such stormy times because of the level of trust and respect he had from his players. By severing their relationship with Grady, the Sox brain trust had better resolve these potential contract issues before the team breaks spring training or you will witness a dysfuntional, poorly focused team missing the playoffs and struggling to even remain a contender.

They just made Grady a fall guy... Was Grady responsible for all the failures since 69 plus years ?? No matter what... Red Sox team is full of losers and lazy bums. -JL
