After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 58 Reason for Grady's demise: 2002------93 wins 69 losses 2003------95wins 67 losses NOT enough improvement through the ENTIRE season with the talent this team had. Grady could not make decisions when it came to the nitty gritty. Although maybe a great guy, he's a minor league manager! Why not promote from within the organization? It worked with Theo! Lynn, Leominster, MA be careful what you wish for. prediction for 2004. sox will not make the playoffs, nor will they win the pennant in 2004. first yahoo will complain by the 5th of april BAD MOVE tony, west roxbury, mass The Sox have new ownership and management, but it's still the same old short-sightedness. Selective memory and a key playoff mistake spell doom for the manager. Sound familiar? If Epstein really adheres to all the Bill James "sabermetrics" business, why is he still doing what other GMs have done before - namely, throwing money at expensive free agents, trying every year to beat the Yankees and win it all? The A's have built a team that contends every year without a bunch of high-priced free agents! (And, by the way, look at the Marlins.) The Sox should build a successful team through their farm system over a few years, instead of spending away every year trying to win the Series. Andrew, Berkeley,CA Got to bring in Fregosi or Hargrove. Both are guys that have proven that they can handle a clubhouse of odd personalities and characters (Fregosi managed the 93 Phillies to perfection, and Hargrove did a great job with Indians teams that included Albert Belle and Roberto Alomar, as well as a young Manny). You need a proven guy to handle the Boston media, not a first-timer. Fregosi especially has already weathered the storm in Philly, which is almost as difficult. Anyone saying that you don't want a recycled manager is being shortsighted and foolish. Joe Torre and Jack McKeon are both recycled guys--Torre especially was a consistently losing manager until he took over for the Yankees. Sometimes you've got to be in the right situation. That said, if Torre or Jim Leyland become available, they should jump to the head of Boston's wish list. Brian, DC Good Move! He may have been player's manager but we have to remmber that his job is to be th leader and make the right decisions, not kiss the players ass and be uncle Buck. Tese players, especially Pedro, needs to be kicked in the ass. I say trade Pedro, Manny and Nomar if he doesn't act a little more mature. Trade for young prospects and give them a few years to mature. Grady is not the only problem! Rick, Tampa (Boston) Great job you loosers... Based on the number of emails last week to this rag that were ready to hang Little last week, just about every smart a*s above the Conn line that could do this job. How 'bout Buckner or Mookey?? Maybe Pete Martenez is the punk you should have gotten rid of.....Happy Holidays Nelfonso, Reston, VA John from Foxboro has got it right - if Grady yanked Pedro and the bullpen blew it, then what? He'd still be fired. Why isn't Red Sox Nation calling for Theo to trade Pedro for his pig-headedness in convincing Grady to keep him in the game. Why hasn't Wakefield been put on waivers? Because there had to be a scapegoat? Stupid. It was a great season, an even better post season (38 of a possible 41 games were played), but if the "Nation" thinks this was a bad move, next year will be worse when Nomar gets traded to the Dodgers and Frank McCourt by July 31, 2004. Hey, at least the Sox will get that left handed starter in Odalis Perez in the deal. Steve, Boston YOU GUYS UP IN BOSTON JUST DON'T GET IT. SOMETHING WRONG WITH A 188- 136 RECORD??? YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GO AS FAR NEXT YEAR WITH A NEW MAN! rickey, brooklyn, ny I truly believe that Grady did an amazing job with the Red Sox...giving the Boston fans over 180 wins in just 2 years is superior. How could you decide that Grady wasn't a successful coach after he took the Red Sox to the ALCS only 1 run shy of the World Series. Believe me, listening to Grady talk during press conferences was painful but he did the best job ever in managing the Red Sox players egos...he built a chemistry that bar far was the key contributor to the team's success. The first person that should go is Pedro, the fact that we can't count on our #1 ace to throw more then 120 pitches is absurd...lets see Beckett, Prior, and Wood all pitched more then 7 innings at least once in the playoffs. Why can't we rely on pitchers like that? Stephen, Braintree I think it is a ridiculous move. He didn't blow that game 7 by himself. Are we going to let Pedro go too???? By the way, if the new management is so into statistics, How could you overlook Grady's numbers. I think Luchino or Henry should get the job. Clowns!!
