After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 63 It's a mistake to let him go. They're too close to make such a desperate move. The media (Eddie Andelman) complain that he managed on hunches and not stats. How about the stat that they had the third worst bullpen in the AL. Though they looked great in the playoffs, they were still high risk. If Sox had Rivera think Pedro would have come out?...of course he would. The real issue here is the trade for Kim. They gave away Hillebrand for nothing. This guy is damaged goods and will crack under pressure. Jesse, Medford I can't believe some of the comments I've read and how stupid many of the fans are. Grady was NOT let go because of Game 7. Game 7 just sealed a fate that had already been decided. Even had Game 7 not occurred the way it did, I think it's best that Grady not come back. This past season has been record-setting, an amazing team. We may not see another one like it in our lifetimes. It would be unfair to Little to expect another team like the one we just saw, and the pressure on him to produce an indentical, if not, better, team would be immense. I think it's best for him that he not be subjected to that kind of fan scrutiny and pressure. I have no idea who could replace him, nor would I presume to have the knowledge to make that decision. I only wish some of these fans would realize that they don't either. Thank you. Gerri C, Boston Grady did a great job... Funny, the management says they are all about stats, then let a single bad decision sway their opinions. They don't understand the importance of chemistry. Grady helped foster a tremendous chemistry among the players.. an amazing contribution considering the million dollar egos sitting in the dugout. We were evenly matched with NY. Next year would have been a great revenge year, but now we start all over. Dan, Mansfield AFTER HAVEING THE BASEBALL PACKAGE, AND WATCHING ((EVERY GAME )) THIS YEAR. GRADY LITTLE COST THE SOX, AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM OF 10 GAMES, PROBABLY MORE.. WITH HIS SHOOT FROM THE HIP METHODS. HE WAS WORTHLESS.. I THOUGHT THAT AFTER ZIMMER ( NO-ONE COULD BE WORSE, BUT LOW AND BEHOLD GRADY LITTLE.. I AM SURE ANYONE THAT THEY HIRE WILL BE BETTER THAN GRADY LITTLE.. MY FIRST CHOICE WOULD BE A GOOD PITCHING COACH, BECAUSE THERE PITCHING WAS ((NOT )) BAD ((MOST )) OF THE YEAR ))SOX PITCHING STATS WERE HIGH (BECAUSE LITTLE LEFT HIS STARTING PITCHER IN TO LONG (HENSE HE )) BUILT UP THERE ERA.. MANY GAMES WERE WON BY SOX BY COMEINGFROM BEHIND, AND IN THOSE GAMES LITTLES SKIN WAS SAVED.. HE SEEMED TO LIKE THE # 5, SO MANY TIMES THE STARTER WAS ALLOWED TO STAY IN UNTIL 5 RUNS WERE SCORED... I WISH I HAD KEPT STATS FOR THIS YEAR THEN I WOULD KNOW EXACTLY HOW MANY GAMES HE ((G. LITTLE )) HAD LOST.... GOOD LUCK TO THE SOX IN 2004.. FJH6691 FRANCIS J, STUART FLORIDA Firing Grady Little is a BIG mistake, motivated by emotion and not clear thinking. Granted, he left Pedro in an inning too long... but he got the team to that seventh game. He unified and motivated the team throughout the season -- a season when the team was never far from the top spot. Grady Little was clearly a quality coach--one that will be awfully hard to replace. I'm afraid the repercussions of this ill-conceived action will make themselves painfully clear next season. Barry, Los Angeles Jerry Remy seems to be the ONLY one who could garner instant respect as well as really "take charge" and know what to do. The guy is a baseball genius and perhaps the most underrated analyst out there. The Sox were winning games this year DESPITE Grady Little - why can't we be in a position where the manager can WIN us a dozen or so games from excellent managing? Remy is the only guy out there that could do this for us (unless of course Joe Torre becomes available). Ari , Sharon, MA With the desire and motivation he demonstrated while trying to attack Pedro, the Sox need to hire The Zim to replace Grady. J. , Portsmouth I have been a die hard Red Sox fan for over 60 years and will say that the Sox's loss to the Yankees in game seven was the most demoralizing loss I have felt in those 60 years. I watched all those games in the ALCS until Pedro came out for the 8th inning, when he came out for the 8th I knew right then the Sox's were done. I can not understand how Grady Little did not recognize the Yanks had started pounding Pedro in the 7th so you knew he would not be out for the 8th. I will say this Little was wrong and Pedro was twice as much to blame for telling Little he had enough gas to go. If I was managing that game I would have told Pedro yes you may have enough gas to go but not in this ball game. Tell the Sox's and Mr. Epstein you know a senior Red Sox fan in Vermont if that want to hire (and I don't charge much) will bring them a championship. Bob, St Albans, VT Just remember, one dirty deed deserves another. Just remember WHO took them to the ALCS. I sure hope Sox management remembers this after they don't make the playoffs next season. mark, pa I think the Red Sox organization took the right decision. Not because the Red Sox loose game seven, but because I think Mr. Little did not handled the bullpen appropriate during the season. I respect Mr. Little because he's a gentleman and he knows how to treat baseball players, but you must win to be successful. On the other hand, Managers (in all kind of organizations) are hire to get good results, to reach goals, to accomplish and Little failed in game seven. Good look to you Gary Little in the future.
