After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 67 The next manager should be Jim Leyland. If not Willie Randolph the only Yankee I ever wished would coach the Sox.I don't know how he would be in the Media but as a player how could you not respect his knowledge of the game, the way he played the game he is baseball's version of Joe Dumars and look what he as done for the Pistons.Leyland without a doubt would command respect look who he has managed to include Tony Pena...Bobby Bo...Barry...Wakefield...Moises..Conine...speaks for itself Paulo, New Bedford Grady could no longer manage in Boston and had to go. Image the reaction when he had to go to the mound next year. His late game moves throughout the season left a lot to be desired and his game 7 non-moves were inexcusable. Mike Hargrove would be a good replacement. jim, staffors, VA Grady Little deserved better at the hands of Red Sox mangement. Under wunderkind Theo Epstein he was given a "bullpen by committee" which proved to be woefully inept. If Grady is to be held responsible for the consummate stupidity of front office mismanagement he must be given credit for bringing our Sox to game 7 of the ALCS. Grady was able to inspire a team of individual stars to function as a team, each individual sacrificing himself for the team, the first time that has happened in my memory. I am seventy eight years old, not that that places me in any special category except longevity, but I have seen it all. I had high hopes for the new Sox front office; that they might bring a World Series Championship to Boston in my lifetime. Unhappily that will not happen. Grady was not Theo's man so he had to go. Not that you need my good wishes Grady, but good luck and I will revel in your World Series victory wherever youmay be. GO PATRIOTS. Larry Anzivino, Lenox Lawrence, Lenox I grew up there and have been a Sox fan all my life. While it was horrible watching the lead dwindle and the eventual loss, this was a great Red Sox team and a fantastic season. That is what Grady did for Boston. So now we run another great manager out of town. Jimmy Williams was one of the others we let get away for a spoiled rotten athlete. Had Pedro got out of the inning and pitched a complete game win Grady would have been lauded a hero unless of course something went wrong and the Bosox lost in the world series then he'd be the goat and then he would have been run out of town. The only manager that needs to be considered should be the one who guarentees a 162-0 regular season record and 11-0 in the post season. That way, after the first loss, we can fire him and start rebuilding.........again. Steve, Columbia, SC just another example of how the negative fans and even more negative media (which came first?) run this team.... minnie, sioux falls I can't help but feel that this was a firing based on public opinion. Sure Grady Little made a grave mistake, but was it one worthy of being fired? All the positives he brought to the team were clearly outweighed by a decision that he wasn't even permitted to learn from. A lot has been said about our ownership bringing about a change, not only physically to the ballclub and ballpark, but to the attitude of the team. I thought Grady was part of that type of change to which they were committed. Lucchino, Werner, Epstein, and Henry are now going to hang their hats on someone that is in-line with their statistical philosophy. My question now is why did Joe Kerrigan get fired, a person who managed solely on statistics and video-taped detail? The reason: In a job where you deal with people and personalities, batters who at best succeed 30 percent of the time, and pitchers who win at best one-third of their starts, wasn't Little's personality best suited to deal with that? If we look more closely at the bottom line: Little = 0 championships Henry = 0 championships, Marlins win after he sells Lucchino = 0 world series rings Esptein = 0 championships Littls's nonrenewal looks like a chance to get a relatively young manager like a Hoffman, Francona, etc. into the fold and take the team in a different direction. With the impeding contract decisons of Pedro, Nomar, Varitek, Nixon, etc. don't be surprised if the next thing you hear from management is that "we are definitely trying to build a team for the future, we are a ball club with a lot of aging veterans and we need to replenish our minor league system." Leonard, Chicago Removing Little is a big mistake. Managing big leaguers these days is really managing big paychecks attached to big egos. Remember the back-biting and rawness in the locker room prior to Little's arrival? The "team" couldn't make it out of July. Here's the bar ownership is setting: their new manager has to win 95 games or more and the World Series, or he too is a failure. Evidently J.o.h.n H.e.n.r.y and L.a.r.r.y L.u.c.c.h.i.n.o are the new ways to spell George Steinbrenner. Bob, Littleton, MA What are you people thinking? Axing Little for one decision? It could be a lot worse. For those of you who don't think so, I've got two words for you----1) Tony 2) LaRussa. Here in St. Louis, you can make really dumb decisions daily, and the owners will beg you to come back to manage next year. Jimmy G, Saint Louis, Missouri It is wrong to make Grady the fall guy when the rest of the Red Sox players were equally responsible. No wonder Red Sox is not a world champions and they dont deserve to be one. All they do is sit on their big fat butt and chew tobacco. Joe, Newton, MA deserves it .after first hit when he came out that should have been it for Martinez.
