So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. THIS DOWN IS FULL OF A BUNCH OF FOOLS. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT WITH LONG BALL BURKETT, PEDRO "ALWAYS INJURED AND WHINING" MARTINEZ, MANNY "I GOT A COLD" RAMIREZ, NOMAR "WISH I COULD HIT IN POSTSEASON" GARCIAPARRA, TIM "KNUCKLEBALLER-HOPE AND PREY FOR THE BEST BUT I CAN'T CONTROL IT" WAKEFIELD, BYUNG "OOPS IT HUNG" KIM, AND THE CLOSER BY COMMITEE CARDIAC BULLPEN, WE WERE EVER GOING AS FAR AS GRADY GOT US?????? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! WE JUST TOOK A GIANT LEAP BACKWARDS. THIS TOWN JUST SHOWED WHY NO MANAGER WORTH HIS WEIGHT WILL BE COMING HERE. WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS.....NOT IN OUR LIFETIME. Stating that Grady Little was a good manager "except for the one bad decision in Game 7" is equivalent to stating that John Wilkes Booth was a good actor, "except for that one incident at Ford's Theatre". Not just Boston hotheads, but respected national sportswriters have called Grady's idiotic Game 7 brain melt the worst lapse in managerial judgment ever seen. Hire a respected Sox veteran such as Jerry Remy or Carlton Fisk.

93 and 95 wins in consecutive seasons. Harmony in the clubhouse. One game away from a World Series run. Not something you've been able to say about the Sox in some time. Given what is potentially to be gained this move looks like a foolish decision. Maybe if Torre or someone who is clearly better were available. From the current list of candidates I just don't see how the team is going to be improved and it certainly creates a lot of unknowns where they didn't need to be.. If you have a problem with his management of the pitching staff why not get him a better pitching coach and tell him to rely on him more? Seems like a minor tweak to management was required, not a major overhaul. Time will tell.

it looks like there may be some cuts at the yankees. if joe torre gets the axe, it would be totally awesome if the sox picked him up.

As a long time Red Sox fan, I believe the RS ownership has good reasons for replacing Grady Little. I disagree with Brad from Chattanooga about using Varitek rather than Mirabelli, who caught Wakefield all year. I'd like to remind him that the Red Sox won two games with that line-up. Mirabelli also contributed with his bat, making the first hit of rhe game and scoring their first run. Varitek was available to pinch hit and contribute. I like the idea of Stanley or Leyland becoming the next manager.

Hey New England, don't you know it's not enough to just fire a guy up there? You also have to tar and feather him and then hang him from a tree on the Common for making one mistake in an otherwise extremely successful managerial stint. That's how you people deal with life--by seeking out others as scapegoats to blame for all the ways your lives haven't turned out how you hoped. People as mean, nasty and unforgiving as you New Englanders deserve the Red Sox. You folks aren't cursed by the Bambino. You're cursed by the coldness that's in your hearts. Grady Little belongs in a much better town than yours with much better people. Like New York.

"Jim Leyland for Bosox Mg of the Year" I was here in Hollywood 1997, when JIM weaved his magic wand. The Marlins went from jokers to KINGS. He can do it here. This past year the RED SOX won in spite of Grady. All year long my wife Karen & me shouted & cursed at the TV when Grady sat in the dugout seemingly dazed, drugged, or just "Zimmered-out". We can win in my lifetime. Get Leyland, and have the "Eck" as Pitching coach and groom Jerry Remy. Get ready to have a Mg that will tell Manny 'crap or get off the pot you overpayed baby' as well as our bullpen learn that all important "out-pitch." Hey, I'm available to coach, play catch or anything it takes and I live just across Allegator Alley-the place we'll leave the A.L. behind us as we claw our way to the promised land. Grady will take over at Baltimore next year and will finish second. Sox will finish in 3rd place, with a 75-87 record.

it's a shame about Grady.all that goodwill and then the unforgettable mistake.i doubt he wanted to come back and live on thin ice anyway.he should've taken Pedro out for sure, but it was 5-5 and time for another late inning comeback.that's unlikely with Wakefield in there.I love him,but it's to easy to hit a homrun if the knuckle don't knuckle as evidenced by Boone(Boone!) hitting us out of the World Series.that's the bigger mistake and unfortunately typical of Littles pitching moves throughout the season. If he'd somehow apologised.i think that might've done the trick with the Nation, but the owners wanted him out and Grady gave them an excuse. Now they'll be looking for a managaer when they should be looking for some pitchers. the whole thing is depressing.i'm cowboy down.

Good ridence. Long over-due. He may have kept a loose club-house, but the man was clueless when the game tsarted. He was probably the cause of the bullpen not responding. Mgt should have sniffed out his potential for losing games due to lack of game management; Game 1 vs Oakland was an attrocity. Henry, Theo and Co. will pick the right man.
