What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 10 see ya- who cares if her goes to ny- they would never put him in their rag armed outfield and he'll never dh for them with giambi there- look for SD or LA to grab him... but this could mean the yanks trade giambi and grab manny they hate giambi in the clubhouse.. either way- see ya manny we need the pitching and a bat with a real arm and a brain tvboy, nj I think this is a great move by the Sox to free up some salary so that those funds can be used to sign lowe, tek, nixon, and nomar. Keeping the core of those guys together is much more important than keeping Manny. No hitter with limited defensive skills is worth the kind of money Duquette paid him. Steve , Somerset The fact (s) are to succeed @ anything mandates committment and sacrifice. To succeed as a team demands the common goal (s) preceed your own. Manny has zero concept of any of this. ---Great Move. --Besides he not a pull hitter. Pedro next. Bobby , Hampden, Maine Look, Manny was the Elias Sports Bureau's top rated hitter in 2003, he makes any team he's playing for better - when his head is in the game, that is. His $104 mil over the next five seasons is an enormous burden for the Sox to bear, but Theo is taking a fairly big gamble by placing him on waivers, since the only team that has the resources to pick him up is the Yanks. Though tempting, NY will pass and go after a CF/2B and more starting pitching. The Sox need another arm, and as the Yanks have shown pitching, not outfielders, win championships. They need to go after Colon - something they should have done last year but were too timid to trade Fossum. When Manny's not picked up, they will HAVE to trade him since can you imagine how sour and salty he will be in Fenway next season? David, Ipswich, MA excellent move, though it is a pipedream to think that somebody will pick him up. even if he doesn't get taken, this should send a message to him that he's not as indispensible as he may think he is, and maybe he should grow up a little. if somebody (read: steinbrenner) does pick him up, then we have some money to play with. guererro, pettite, colon, millwood? possibly even A-rod? starting to look like a great move. but that's a big IF. dan , JP I think it's a good move. I'm not exactly sure why I think that because you hate to loose such a power hitter, but I have a feeling that Theo must have something up his sleeve. I think there was more to the whole Manny situation this past summer than the Red Sox let on and I think Manny's fate was sealed even before Grady Little's this year. Dan, Newton Manny is unidimensional-definitely not worth $20M+ per season. john , chelmsford My thoughts are that Theo is pretty sure he is getting Colon or Millwood or perhaps BOTH. The only way they can afford to go after both those guys is to free up Manny's $100 million. A rock solid pitching rotation is the only way the Sox will win it all. Nick, Lexington We should be happy if anyone takes Manny for this $, even the Yanks. This would free up enough money to improve the team and Manny wants to wear pinstripes anyway. Use this money to keep Nomar, VTeck and guys who work their tail off and make some signings. If the sox brass learned anything from this SEASON is that catering to the overpaid superstars doesn't get in done and never wil. More importanly, I'm tired of hearing about these clowns all year. Go Celts!!! D., Worcester, Ma I would like manny to stay in boston... but if we can get a #2 starter and someone to play left... lets do it!
