What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 11 Well, I'll miss his bat in the line up. If we are able to keep Nomar, Varitek, Lowe and Nixon because of it, then maybe it would be worth it. We need some money to keep the core guys together and get some good pitchers. I'd love to sign Pettitte away from the Yankees, and if we've got to send Manny to NY to do it, then I'll help him pack. No question Manny is a distraction in the clubhouse, and we all saw this year how important the clubhouse atmosphere is to the success of a team. This could end up being a brilliant move if it works. If not, there could be talk of a new curse in town. Too bad there's no MANAGER to run this one by... I think the Yankees would snap Manny up in a heartbeat, just for his bat so he could become another Red Sox killer. It wouldn't help the Yankees outfield issues though, as Bernie is too slow for center, and there was talk of moving Soriano to right. If the Yankees take Manny, they'd either need to ditch Giambi (so Manny could DH) or keep Soriano at 2nd, move Matsui to right and put Manny in left. They'd have to live with Bernie in center for a while, unless Matsui could play there. Yanks could also get rid of Juan Rivera and Karim Garcia to free up some room. It just sounds like something George would do -- like eating that 2nd helping of dessert when you're already full -- even though he needs to make sure he's got enough cash to sign some pitchers. Jan, Monroe, CT I think it would be great to get rid of Manny and his salary but I don't think placing him on waivers is the way to do it. I believe this will make a lot of players not want to come to Boston to play. Our former players have been ripping the management after their gone. And most players know it is not good to burn bridges and they're still doing it. I thought that trend would change with the departure of Dan Duquette but it hasn't. Also I agree with a lot of the responses regarding the prima donnas we have. If Nomar doesn't come out shortly and say he wants to stay here and sign a long term contract then he can follow Manny right out the door. We need players who WANT to play here. Brian , Everett Bad move....i think.... jon, lowell I understand the desire to free up some spending money but coming on the heels of raising ticket prices (AGAIN) I don't think that is a good move. One has to ask: Are the Sox a better team with Manny? And the answer is YES. Now unless they are going to use this money to sign a marquee player (Andy Petite?!!) then I think it is a dumb move! John , Braintree What the heck is going on? Is all the doing of the owners? The real issue is that the firing of Grady Little might have caused some resentment by the players!!! and of course now, we will not have Manny, soon we won't have anybody!!! Thanks Lucchino et al, time to rebuild! and thanks to the rest of the "base on emotions" fans for not backing Grady Little!! Now we have an uproar!! WhatisGoingon?, Boston, MA It is about time... Pack him and Nomar to Texas for Arod. Mike, Pepperell theo is crazy, unless he gets vladimir guerrero. bill, hudson We are not waiving Manny - we are Waving bye bye. Let's get some players who want to be here. Linda, Westford We have a FANTASTIC group of owners here in Boston - I love these guys. They're making every right move - this one took some balls. If Manny goes to NY, so be it, he said he wanted to be there anyways. Besides, we'll be in a better position to grab Vladamir Guerrero, a true Tripple-Crown threat who can actually play a good defensive outfield. Without a bottle of Poland Spring in his back pocket. Pat , Newton, MA Manny - Call if you need a ride to the aiport.
