I checked my calendar to see if this could be an April Fool's joke but I guess it isn't.. WOW! this has to be one of the dumbest moves I can ever remember.. I can't stand the way he doesn't hustle , but the guy is one of the best hitters the Sox have had in a long time.. Great timing too.. Same day ticket prices are increased.. sure this wasn't Theo's twin brother who made this move?? DONKEYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tinnk it is a shrewd move. Possible outcomes: He is picked up by someone and sox can spend his salary on the core players of the "team". No one picks him up, manny gets the message that he either joins the "team" or he retires. It might even cause a salary reduction if he stays. It also sends a message to the team that the management values teamwork over showmanship. Manny is a great hitter, but he looks like he is loafing all of the time. Image what he could do if he had the work ethic of Nomar, Varitk, Reggie Jackson, Carl Yazstremski of Pete Rose! Like the deal with Grady, we as outsiders can only speculate what really goes on in the clubhouse...what we see may not be reality and he might be a huge distraction. One person can't carry the team, only a team can which is why they made it as far as they did this year. The Yankees have proven this point - with all their high priced talent, they couldn't beat the Marlins with their "normal" players. GO Sox!

This makes me think of another time the Sox sold their power hitter to the Yanks for basically nothing (1918...). Theo Frazee and the rest must have a pretty good plan if they think they'll be better off with a Yankees lineup that goes: Soriano, Jeter, Manny, Giambi, Williams, Matsui, Posada, Boone, Johnson. OUCH.
