What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 15 he's not going anywhere. no one will sign him, and if the sox dont eat his salary, no one will trade for him. Moral of the story - nobody wants him, nor is anyone willing to roll the dice on an immature, one-dimensional player. scooter, allston I think it is ridiculous !!!!!! The Sox are banking on a few guys who hit well above the heads this year. He is a top 5 hitter in baseball. His bad defense is overblown. His D doesn't hurt the sox anymore than Nomar's does or Trot's. I think it is a joke. roberto , manchester, nh Manny is one of the best hitters in all of baseball, no question. As a lifelong Yankees fan, however, I wouldn't want to see him in pinstripes. As one person has posted already, it is team chemistry that makes a champion and the Marlins are a prime example. I give Theo a lot of credit for building a solid ball club in one year and he may be on to something with this move here. After A-Rod was signed for all the tea in China, I really believed that there would be no limit to the spending madness. I think that this is a statement by the management all around baseball (except for evil George) that high salries have reached an apex and there is more to just numbers when it comes to a good ball player. Let's see what happens, but I think that with all the quality free agents available Theo should be able to sign a bunch of quality players (hopefully he goes after some starting picthers) if someone nabs Manny. Matt, North End I think it is a good move IF he gets picked up by another team. We would have flexibility to sign another pitcher and another "more" rounded every day player. Jon W, Burlington Better to do it now and get it out of the way than wait till Spring training. Any bad blood should be gone by then if someone (METS) grab him soon....and it'll leave room for a free agent signing. Joe , Revere Manny can hit, let's face it. Let's also face the fact that he doesn't want to be in Boston and we don't need him. We have great hitting. The money that letting Manny go frees up is so valuable to a team who needs to make some major moves in the upcoming seasons. It would be nice to keep him around, but no one player is worth the money that Manny makes, especially a player who has an attitude. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out Manny. Danielle, Boston We in Red Sox nation have had enough of "Manny being Manny" - peace out..... Mike, Wakefield what are they thinking? some may say that he is a problem child, but I think that he accomplished alot, his numbers say so. Unless they have someone in mind that can produce those kind of numbers, then we can officially say that we are rebuilding and not really smart! The seventh game was heart breaking but there was no need of getting rid of little, Team that was put on the field last year was the closest to winning a title, and despite a dumb choice we still have that chance, and its especially dumb that we get nothing in return! Scott, Framingham The bad news: we lose "the most feared hitter in baseball". The good news: Dewey gets his number back. Tim, Baltimore Fantastic...........Had Hoped they would package Manny and Pedro for Hudson or Zito.....This is next best thing Theo has analyzed stats..........Manny is 250 hitter with game on the line...Forget RBI....... I want to know Left on Base LOB......THAT is the stat to look at..........Manny is highest LOB on planet..........Love to see Manny and Giambi 3 and 4......90 home runs and NO playoffs for Yanks !!!!!
