Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

$20 million a year ball players should not be high maintenance. Straight up, I'd take Trot Nixon or Johnny Damon over Manny without even flinching.

I didn't know Harry Sinden was running the Sox too! Oh well bring on Vlad!

Mikey, Moncton, NB

If you get Vlad then and keep your core of free agents then it's a great move. If not we may regret this one (just like Roger and the Babe).

Patrick, Ottawa, Canada

I think that it's a bad move. I know Manny is a litte strange - and he's not good with dealing with the public/media; but he is arguably the most talented player on the team - and he's young, so some of his best years may very well still be ahead of him. The Yankees will probably get him and then we'll all say "why can't we get guys like that?"

Ski, North End, Boston

Was Bill Belichik involved in this!!! Releasing a superstar certainly seemed to work for the Patriots. It will certainly be nice to spend that $20 million on pitching.

Dave, West Hartford

Good Bye Manny. You will grow up somewhere else. Right now, Red Sox need good MEN!

Gerri, Stoneham, MA

very surprised! but after some thought - a very smart tactical and strategic move tactically - makes steinbrenner make a move, if bluster says yes - then manny's money is free to grab TWO free agents...if bluster says no - then manny gets mad at bluster for not bringing him home strategically - if anyone takes the bait - same as above - money is free to sign varitek, lowe, nixon, nomar, and maybe pedro - if no one takes the bait - manny sees he's not wanted - who knows, he'll retire and not be due that gazillion dollars

I see nothing wrong with the Red Sox throwing huge money at a cantankerous self-centered primadonna who can hit the ball a ton. I think that they should keep him.

Albert

Abosolutely RETARDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pgame, newton, MA

He is too difficult to manage. Other players do not like is play even though they do not publicly say this. He does not run out ground balls, His outfield play has alot to be desired. There are alot of good ball players out there for alot less money. For a better clubhouse he should go. He should get his flu shot right away.
