Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Why not? They can buy a whole lot with $100 million. Manny is great but badly overpriced.

These guys are supposed to be clutch players. Did they come through when it was needed? NO. Good Idea, get rid of all these high priced , whining Prima Donnas. Pedro, your'e next. Good Riddance,

I'm not sure how this will effect the team's vaunted "Chemistry", but something tells me the only poison in the dugout, sans the usual volatility that is Pedro Martinez, is Ramirez. He's a great pure hitter, but little else, and I'd love to see the Sox be able to move his salary to keep Tek, Nomar, Nixon, and sign Ortiz to a long term deal (face it, had the guy played all year, he'd have swatted more dingers than Ramirez. We HAVE our power hitter for a fraction of the cost). Let's go for Vlad! In the meantime, can we finagle Baldelli and lose Damon's contract while we're at it?

Provided that the Sox use that extra 20 million wisely (ie...sign many of their own free agents) and don't squander it all on another one or two grossly overpaid players, it will prove to be a good business decision.

I'd rather have the yearly 20M to secure multiyear contracts for Garciaparra, Varitek, Lowe, Ortiz, Walker and Nixon. We paid too much for what we are getting. Time to let Manny float somewhere else and at their expense.

Chris , Conyers, GA

If the Yanks were smart they'd sign Guerrero and stick it to the Sox.....this could backfire!!

George , Dracut

Manny who?

Chris, South Boston

Good move! This move truly allows the Red Sox the flexibility to pursue more free agents that are sorely needed (Starting Pitcher, an infielder and an outfielder who can play defense and hit and some bull pen help. I would not be surprised to see Texas claim him, especially if they lose you know who.

This is the stupidest thing I have heard. I new this new breed of owners would screw things up.

Ernest , Louisville

Fine. Now do the same with Pedro.
