Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

GREAT MOVE with a big if. I think it only works IFsomeone claims him. If not, then he becomes a bigger cancer than ever. I'm extremely impressed with sox management for having the courage to finally stand up to a juvenile, immature , selfish player who yes is one of the great sluggers in the game but nit worth everything that comes with it. Here's my thoughy of a proposed lineup for next year.. Damon cf Luis Castillo 2b (free agent signing) Nomar ss Vlad Guerrero rf (free agent) Ortiz dh Millar 1b Mueller 3b Kapler lf Tek c.. Trade Nixon and Fossum or Arroyo to the Phillies for Millwood and sign Colon (free agent). Wishful thinking perhaps but i think very possible...

They are taking a terrific gamble. Yeah Manny has his problems but even a guy with lots of problems wins a lot of games hitting 40 HRs, driving in 120 + and batting over .330. I have a hard time envisioning him a large enough negative that it cancels out what he brings offensively. If he does go they better be able to replace him with a Guerrero and add a Millwood or Colon on top of it. If the Sox get someone to bite on Manny and they can sign the above mentioned salary replacements they improve the club. Otherwise they have a massive mess on their hands. It is tough to roll the dice twice and win. First they have to have someone take Manny and then they need to convince the desired replacements to sign. I wouldn't have invested energy in dumping Manny. I am as a Sox fan more concerned about what do with Martinez and Garciaparra. I do not believe under any circumstances that Pedro is resigning with Boston (nor do I think an expensive long term deal with him is worth a risk) and Nomar probably wants Jeter money and I do not believe that is a good investment. Keep Manny and cut your losses with those two.

Farewell Manny. Your an awesome hitter, but too self-centered. Take Mr. Pedro with you> PLEASE!!!! NO more Cry Babies. PLEASE!!!! We need players that will be there when the team needs them. NOT in a bar. We need players that will give 100% every play. Not just when they feel like it!!!. Too bad, cause without your foolishness Manny you would be a totally awesome player. Your loss, not ours. Let Mr. Yankee himself have U!!

The best idea. Theo is a genius!! With the true players of the Sox all with their contracts coming to an end, why keep this guy?? Sign the true future of the BoSox.

first grady, now manny why don't the red sox wait until the middle of december and look at all of the available free agents who could make a impact on the 2004 red sox. oh yes it was pedro who gave up the hits to tie the seventh game and it was the silent bats of the later innings that cost the sox

Seems like good sense financially. However, don't ya get that familiar feeling. They seem to start sucking wind here and then once they end up somewhere else... what do you know... they are playing better than ever...hmmm Drop him anyway, what have we got to lose. Sure can't be any worse than game 7 and we'll be able to retain the real key players that hold the team together.

Not a good move. The only team likely to claim him is N.Y. and Steinbrenner would rather see the sox burdened with carrying a hight priced, now disgruntled Manny, with 5 more years to go. Manny is not going to produce under these conditions. Grady's ghost is already starting to haunt! TRADE? puhhhleeez! Despite his goofball attitude, Manny produces. They should have just let Manny be Manny and enjoyed all his RBI's!!!

Yeah, that guy is a bum, we don't want him. Love, The Yankees

Wake up, Red Sox nation! By putting Manny on waivers, it is telling him in no uncertain terms that he's not wanted in Boston anymore. What happens when Steinbrenner doesn't bite? The Sox are stuck with a sulking, brooding Manny. That episode in Philly was just the tip of the iceburg. I can see it now - he has a blowout with new management in spring training, demands a trade, and things in this town will get uglier than Dan Shaugnessy in a speedo.

Enrico , Boston

Steinbrenner's too savvy to do the Sox a favor and claim Ramirez. When he's left unclaimed, "disrepected" Manny returns to spring training pissed off, out of shape and, as he's done in the past, goes through the motions. Sox then have to trade him for .50 cents on the dollar to (who else?) the Yankees. Manny then rededicates himself, has a great season in the Bronx and gets his ring. It's not easy being a Sox fan but I'm used to it.
