Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

It's about time the Bosox decided to rid themselves of this self-centered, moody, uncooperative excuse for a major league player.....as a Yanks fan this guy is the last player I want to see on the Yankees...as a matter of fact with his high salary and poor attitude I would be very surprised at any other team acquiring him because his bat would not compensate for his downsides.....please George, stay far, far away from this spaced out cowboy.....he is definitely not Yankee material!

The only thing moving is the ticket prices, up again for next year.

Any person who thinks it's a great decision should be reminded that the Red Sox WERE on the verge of a World Series title, and if Manny is not to return, then we're back at in a rebuilding stage. Twenty years from now, when we don't have a title yet, you'll think back to now and complain that the Red Sox owners did it again. Those supporters of this decision are going to regret their words IF the team doesnıt make a championship. Many people are saying, ³See Ya Manny,² but itıs going to come around and bite us. We are NOT an expansion team, and weıre right where we should be as far as talent goes. The Red Sox must work towards achieving itıs goal short term. Meaning, this season will be the year, not several years from now. Donıt stir the stew.

Clearly management isn't afraid to make some big plays. Manny was the only offense for the team 2 years ago, it was nice to see him step up to the plate. But not so nice to see him step into left field, or step on the base paths. I'm sure the Sox can make it spending his salary on other players. I'll miss him, but there are lots of exciting opportunities now (and they probably can keep the rest of the squad together).

Good bye and Good Riddance! The laziest man in professional baseball, who pads his stats against the Tmpa Bays and Detroits of Major League Ball. The only person who needs to be off the team MORE than Grady Little!

Bravo. For the past several months, I've told my Yankee fan friends that Manny would be gone this winter, but I never thought he would be put on waivers. Clearly, management feels that this guy is such an overpaid yutz that he can't be traded - we're expecting someone to give us players, as well as take over his contract? This is daring and if no one picks him up, we may have another problem, but I'm happy to see that ownership the guts to do what is necessary.

Manny's a very good hitter but he's an average outfielder and he's WAY overpaid.

Anyone who thinks this is a bad move by management just doesn't know baseball. Finally a mgmt team that understands a championship can't be bought, it has to be homegrown and then topped off with investments. We've spent our money and where has that gotten us over the years. Take a look at how the Yankees built their championship teams. Anyone noticed the payroll of the last 2 World Series Winners?

I think this is a great thing. There's no point in even discussing the obscenity of the salaries in so-called "professional" sports. It's a sad day when these illiterate, alleged athletes achieve greater notariety for their paychecks and/or getting arrested. They're all a bunch of useless scumbag jocks, who deliver no value to society whatsoever, and as far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see them all price themselves right out of business.

This is the first sign that the new ownership is selling off the team. After the Marlins won the 1997 World Series their owners did the same. Look for a new Red Sox next year, and a losing season while the team slowly rebuilds. Somebody will take Ramirez, although probably not the Yankees: their payroll is already sufficiently bloated.
