Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

I think it's a good move. Manny is a very good player, bu so many other players were clutch when they needed to be and Manny wasn't throughout the season. I like manny, and I'd like to see him stay in Boston, but not for what they're paying him, and certainly not at the sacrifice of guys like Trot, Veritech and others. With Vlad Guerrero on the free agent market, Manny could become replaceable for less $$. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'LL MISS THE STIMULATING CONVERSATION IF HE IS WAIVED.

RHE

Big Mistake!!! Although he has his quicrks, Manny is still the most feared hitter in baseball, plays an adequate left field, and appears to be a good guy in the clubhouse. Just as they shouldn't haven't let grady go, they need to preserve this years team as much as possible; you don't get his chemistry very often. They will regret it if someone grabs him. If anything, trade him for a #2 starting pitcher.

Tod, Lancaster

if you wanted to get rid of manny then why not trade him?...yes i realize you free up cash, but who and what are you planning to use it on?...yes you could try and sign ortiz, mueller and millar to long terms...but come on, did anyone not realize that they had career yrs last yr...CAREER YRS..meanin that isn't the norm for any of them, its not like they have and will continue to average those numbers...this move is just stupid...unless u are willing to go out and get colon and/or millwood with this cash, it is just a waste...chalk this one up to one of the more recent idiotic moves in baseball...

If someone, hypothetically named George, has the chutzpah to pick up Manny with his contract and baggage, then we'll miss Manny the hittter. I don't really think many will miss Manny the man.I have faith that Theo could work some good magic with the extra $20.5-24 million in the budget each of the next several years. I say "thanks for visiting Manny, time to go home to New York".

Dave, Meffuhd

Why not just try to trade him? If no one claims him off waivers, they'll still have to trade him. We probably would have had to pay some of his salary to trade him, but now we will probably have to pay most of his salary. Nomar will not pick up the slack. Without Ramirez in the middle of the line-up, it'll be a very long year in 2004. They just raised ticket prices? Unless the Sox are going to go after someone like Vladimir Guerrero, this move (in this manner) does not seem to make much sense. I'll give Theo the benfit of the doubt. Let's see how this plays out.

Moises, Ludlow

This is a great move IF someone picks him up or if they are able to trade him.IF they can free up 20m to resign there other free agents and go after a top line pitcher and outfielder they'll be an even better TEAM. IF they can't move him and get stuck with a 20m pouting spaceshot this could be a disaster.

Firing Grady Little and then putting Manny on waivers? Sox management looking pretty stupid

Nathan, Philly

Its about time the Sox start making their "superstar" players accountable for lack of superstar performance. Next on the chopping block should be "no show Nomar" and "Give me the ball so I can Choke Pedro" Players should not be paid that kind of scratch unless they consistantly perform.

Manny is a diva. Just get on base... That's all we ask. Trying to be a hero and get everyone else home by knocking it into the stands, doesn't win games... The playoffs showed us all that if you're going to win you have to win as a team, trust in your team-mates to close the game and/or get you home. Prima-donnas don't win games... Team mates do...
