What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 33 Manny of the Yankees hits a home run in the 2004 ALCS to beat the Red Sox in game 7. Peter, Abington Obviously, if their(Red Sox) plan is to sign a Vlad Guererro and and Bartolo Colon or something like that with his freed up money, it would better the team and be a great move. A pitcher and an every day player of talent is better than 1 20 million a year Manny. Hopefully this is their thought! Bill, Methuen Manny will be back. This move is a good one because, at worst, it offers the possibility of more disagreements among the leaders of the evil empire. At best, Manny fulfills his dream of playing in New York before the fans who chanted pleasantries in his recent appearances there and the Sox have some money to be used for contracts and in the free agent market.. Will Manny's feelings be hurt? We can hope so, but this knucklehead needs to sit down with his agent and be reminded (daily) of his responsibilities as a superstar under contract. A trade is possible, but I doubt that the Sox will be amenable to picking up a large chunk of his contract. Emmett, Latham, NY I think it is a great idea. Sure, Manny is a very talented hitter, and he came through a lot last year, but his price is too high. Let the Yankees have him. Let's try to build a team around guys who really WANT to play the game. Lifelong Red Sox Fan, Colorado Springs It is about time- he is noto worth the money- never puts 100% out rick, wayland They better already know that they are getting Vlad with Manny's money because they are gonna be left an OF short if they don't. It would be great to get back some money to spend on Nomar, Tek, Dro, and Lowe but this move could backfire big time. Picture this: Steinbrenner picks up Manny and signs Vlad. Yankees OF would be Ramirez, Matsui (moved to center, putting Williams at DH), Vlad. That would be a great move right? Manny comes back to kill us 19 times a year. Question for Jack from Searsport, ME: What exactly have the Mariner's won?? Tony, Roslindale Good idea but it means nothing because no one will pick up Manny. There a better free agents out there that teams will be able to sign for less money. Nice try, keep dreaming. Yankees suck...they really suck! Rick, North Andover A BIG mistake!!!! The story may have ran late because the Globe didn't pick it up in print but what was reported is that statistically, it's been determined by Elias Sports Bureau, that Manny is the second best player in baseball. Hard to justify giving the second best player in the game to the Yankees...and you know that's where he's headed. George has his checkbook out right now!!!! Also, this is just the beginning. More key players will be leaving. ERA, Boston Good - don't let the door hit you on the way out. Gary, Mendon 1. Here comes A's baseball. Now we won't even make it past the first round of the playoffs. 2. Raise tickets prices, lose Manny's salary, make money.
