Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Why are so many people saying Manny is a baby, Manny isn't very good, Good Riddance. What's wrong with you lot!? You get rid of him now, he becomes the ultimate Red Sox killer. But hey, we ran Mo out of town, Clemens out of town, Nomar and Pedro are next. Then who'll be part of the team nucleus? Millar, Mueller, Ortiz? That's not gonna cut it

DK, Cambridge

Milloy was released and look how that turned out GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a scary game the Red Sox are playing. It is already apparent that Manny is a possible clubhouse cancer. If the Yankees or Mets or some other free-spending team doesn't claim him, the Red Sox will have possibly destroyed any team chemistry they might have. There's also another negative in the fact that Manny is such a run producer and one of the better hitters in the league. While he may not have been the most productive player in the playoffs, he did produce when it counted. I also believe his arm, while not one of the best in the league, is underrated. On the flip side, Manny has on many occasion done questionable things and his obcious desire to be out of Boston makes this move a positive one if it works out and could possibly allow the Sox to get some other pieces of their puzzle. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out. But like many other moves in the Sox past, I see this backfiring on the Sox.

Remember Mo Vaughn? Sox sent him packing because mgt was afraid of him. Now mgt can't control Manny so dump him? What we need is upper level mgt with some balls! Someone that can discipline an adult playing a child's game with old fashion woodshed diplomacy. You watch. Pedro will be next. As we say in Boston (we've said this a hundred times), there goes the franchise!

Love see him in a Mets uniform

John , Ipswich

Okay Boston, now you know why we didn't match your crazy offer. You pay him and we'll play him!

Ken, Cleveland OH

Very high risk move, but should work out. I commend the new Sox leadership for having the guts to unload such a high-profile player. He's a great player, but he's on his own planet and his work ethic sucks. I'd take a quality starter over him anytime. Good move Sox!

Jeff, Allston

Risky move , may very well backfire and ruin the chemistry of the club..But would love to see Vladimer in a Soxes colors!!!!!!

Don, Tonawanda , N.Y.

Good Move. Too much for too little. He certainly is not worth $160 million. Aside from the gross overpayment of money he has a poor attitide and is not a team player-out for himself. Good bye and good riddance. Who's next? Anybody else have the sniffles?

Maria, Methuen

Does this mean that the Red Sox have tried to trade him and found no takers? If no team would take on his salary in a trade, why would they claim him on waivers with the same salary? I don't think Manny is worth $20 mil a year, but why risk losing him and getting nothing in return? If he was a free agent and signed elsewhere, the Sox would at least get a draft pick in return.
