What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 35 Good Move - use the 100 million to sign Trot, Varitek and Perdro plus a free agent. ....They should keep it going and trade Nomar for top pitching. Bruno, Scituate Forget it sox fans ,you will be stuck with the loafer Ramirez also forget about Andy Pettite he will stay put in the bronx.Sheffield or Vlaid to the yanks, you need to concentrate on getting someone who can throw the ball, while your at it get rid of Pedro the hot head he is way to fragile shockster, Waunesboro,pa Manny Who? The City of, Cleveland There is no question that Manny is a headcase, but it is a mistake to put him on waivers, because there is no guarantee that you will be able to replace him. If they get rid of manny and sign Colon and Tejada then it may be worth it, but knowing the Red Sox and there love for draft picks there is no way they will do that. For all his faults I like having Manny on the Red Sox, for one it helps us sign young Dominican players and it puts the fear of god in to opposing teams pitchers. Besides do you think David Ortiz would have had the year he did without all the protection that surrounded him in the Lineup. One last point - the Red Sox love to talk about on base percentage and how important it is, but if they get rid of manny they will be losing an on base machine. I pray that no one claims him off waivers. Keep him and raise the ticket prices - I'll still go to the games. Kevin, Brookline "If anybody is interested in an overpaid right-handed slugger with inability to cowboy -up and in need of a serious attitude adjustment please contact Fenway Park personnel" JK, Boston I think it's a good move! Manny is a great hitter, but he has never proven that he is a winner. He's also a disaster on the bases and in the field. Aside from the big dinger in game 5 against Oakland he did NOTHING for us in the playoffs. Now, use Manny's salary to get Guerrero - a big time stick. Then go after Colon, Milwood or BOTH. Then get someone else for the pen like Foulke, Hawkins, etc.,. Resign everyone else (especially Walker and Timlin) and give Pedro one more year to redeem himself. If he really has so much pride, he should be thinking of nothing else but getting back to the ALCS and making up for what he didn't do this year. As a high school basketball coach, I know that you win championships by having players who play hard and play together -- to whom winning is the only goal. Manny is not a winner. The rest of the team has the right attitude (Millar, Walker, Lowe, Varitek, Nixon, etc.,). Give Pedro and Nomar another chance and I think they have what it takes. And, BY NO MEANS LET TROT NIXON GO!!!!! He and Varitek are the heart of this team that I love more than any other Red Sox team in 30 years of following them. Go Red Sox! Dave, Goshen/INDIANA This move will haunt the Sox! I'm outraged! How can you rid yourself of probably the best right-handed hitter in the league. What the Sox are doing is essentially giving Ramirez to the Yanks with nothing in return. mike, south easton My guess is he'll end up in LA w/Dodgers, where his laid back style will be applauded. Steinbrenner might buy him and hide him in right, where he prefers to play. Dan, Newton, MA Management will not be able to afford to resign quite a few of our other plays without moving Manny's contract. He's an all-star and a hall of famer, but that doesn't mean that he helps the team more then his salary hinders the team. With the added payroll flexability we could keep Varitek, Nixon, et al. I would go a step further and trade Nomar for a Kerry Wood equivalent, Trade Pedro for another number one starter (an 80% Pedro) and sign Tajeda (or Matsui out of Japan) all for less than the cost of Pedro and Nomar. Three all stars for less than the price of two, then go out and sign a free agent with the excess, and keep the rest of the team. A team with two numbers ones, followed by Lowe, Wakefield and maybe another number #1 acquired with the money saved on Pedro and Nomar. Of course I'd probably be crucified. But then, I bet the team would win. Matt, Pelham I think we should get rid of him. Sure, he's a good ball player -- but, what a BAD attitude he has... Talk about poor sportsmanship.... And a bad example to the kids.
