Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

I think if the team can save the $100 million and go after Guerrero its a great move...if the plan is to cut Ramirez loose and go with what they have now its a bad move, you can't replace 30HR's and 100 RBI with Kapler.

Putting Ramirez on irrevocable waviers is brillant! The possibilites are endless and I salute 'Sox ownership & Management for their vision... I cannot wait for Opening Day to begin!

While I will not contend that Manny Ramirez is worth his hefty pricetag, this move will be one that will haunt the Red Sox. Should Manny be picked up by the Yankees, he will have extra motivation to terrorize Sox pitching during their 19 annual meetings. Additionally, the loss of Ramirez will decrease the likelihood that Ortiz will resign with the Sox. One should also consider the repercussions that such a move will have on attracting other free agents such as Colon and Guerrero. As far as Pedro, if Manny leaves I would suspect that Pedro will be on his way out as well. I just hope that the Red Sox brass considered the potential damage this move could have, but then again, they run the team and I do not.

"Mannn-eee" is loved at Fenway, but his quick attitude in Game 3 of the ALCS derailed the focus of the entire team and was a great force in the loss. Be aggressive: dump Manny, Sauerback, Kim; pick up Vlad, Colon, seal our team's important contracts--free the money, free the burden, set the course.

Ruth, Boggs, Clemens, Ramirez. Try not to get too sick when you see Manny celebrating next October--once again, you did this to yourselves.

I love Manny but if another team claims him and frees up the 20M for next season and beyond, a serious run can be made for Vlad and others. We would need the Yanks to bite for Manny though and leave Vlad open for the Sox.

To be honest with you I'm personally disgusted with this move...I understand he is getting paid 20 mil/year yet He is a pure hitter who helped many in that lineup including Ortiz and Millar... This doesn't solve the upcoming problem after 2004 when Pedro, Nomar, Tek, and Lowe are unquestionably going to want more $$$...I don't understand this move...The Evil Empire could grab him and if they do.....Then forget it!!! I say we sign Vlad Guerrero then...he would be just as good maybe and probably better. Wait a minute..he is better...he doesn't have his own planet!!! Good Luck Planet Manny!!!

Terrible. No one's gonna pick up his contract and then when Friday rolls around, we're left with a bitter player. And he'll be even more disenchanted with the team - then again, if that's even possible.

As long as there is a plan in place, and I'm sure there is, that the Sox will go after another big stick, then I'm all for it! One more front line Starting pitcher, and an outfielder with some pop and a decent glove should be had with the money they will save from this.

I believe it was a surprising, but smart decision. However, I'd like to see him traded for a few young players that could be big contributers in the future. Manny causes too much trouble and seems to care too much about hitting home runs, and not enough about contributing to the team.
