Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Gee we did not win anything and we are busting up the team . Here we go again.

Sometimes I cannot figure this stuff out, On Wednesday they raise ticket prices the next day they attempt to dump one of their better players. If another team does pick Manny up and the red sox do not better or atleast match the talent they lose this new "pouplar" owership regime will start to slide in public opinion.

Take a look at his lifetime hitting stats. in post season competition, and the answer is quite obvious. Add his defensive, base running, and off-field liabilities to the equation and its a "no-brainer". He is grossly over rated/paid!!! I only hope the Sox can get something for him, rather than having to "eat" his salary. This action and Little's release may finally be indicators that the new Sox ownership will get off of the power hitting mentality and realize that home-grown pitching (case in point, Josh Beckett), pitching, and more pitching, augmented with defense up the middle and team speed would give them the best chance for future success.

Has never been clutch, even in Cleveland. Plays when he wants, great talent but no dedication to the game, just himself. Bye, Bye

Bye bye Manny. Never liked you. What a baby. Shame on the Sox for allowing him and Pedro do do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Scott, Milton

What are they thinking? Say some other team picks him up. who is going to be our clean up hitter? Its no lock that we can sign guerro. Stupid move. Even stuopider are the people that think this is good for the team. 3rd place here we come.

Ed, Providence

Like Ken Griffey, MR is only a distraction who takes away from the total team effort. He may be a the great misunderstood hitter, but he is also the guy no team really wants. I noticed earlier in the year that the ESPN crew tried to do a repair job on Manny's image; a perfect indicator pointing to the problems he has caused the Sox in the clubhouse, on the field, and in the press. malzone

It is a great move. Two things can happen. One, if nobody takes him..it sends a signal. Manny learns he is not in demand, that no other teams want him that badly...not even in his home city. If he DOES get taken, the Sox unload about $100 million in payroll. That frees up money to sign a guy like Andy Pettite or another top line pitcher. Pitching wins championships and if the Sox are gong to be giving someone $20 million, it better be a pitcher. Let the Yankees have Manny....then see if they can match the Sox offer on their ace pitcher. It also sends a signal to other teams that Manny is on the market. Maybe nobody will sign him, but another team may offer a trade. For example, they may be giving a slugger $12 million right now....trade him for Manny...that only puts them in the hole for about $8 million and the Sox still reduce payroll while eliminating a problem in the clubhouse. Any way you look at it....a great move.

Let's hope Nomar Garcia-pop-up is next. Why over pay for offense when pitching wins? Haven't we learned anything from watching Florida and Anaheim?

Ian, Watertown

This will free up $20 million per year to go out and get 2 starters and shore up the pitching which will go a long way in getting us to the World Series and win the whole thing.
