Great move by this new ownership. Any player that states he would like to play for the yankees during a playoff push/run needs to go. Although he is a gifted batter, his distractions off the field are too much to take. I hope somebody claims him so we can add some pitching and retain all the players becoming free agents(ie, varitek,lowe "nomah") Go sox!!!

the move makes sense to me as manny is a total spaceshot. what's the sense in holding your breath all season, waiting for manny to pull off another stunt. overall, he had a very good season and, for the most part the effort was there but he creates factions and unnecessary turmoil on a team that can't handle that type turmoil. hopefully it will work out for both parties

This is a very daring and high risk move. If it pans out (freeing up cash etc) it could be great. But like any high risk move there is a big downside.

Good power hitter but not much else. Can be disruptive to team and prone to fielding errors of judgement. Another Dan Duquette gamble that failed. Good luck to any team that takes him!

I think the only way this turns out to be a good move is if they do something with the money they would have spent on Ramirez's contract. If they lose him and spend some money on FA pitchers, or even a big bat, then it is worth it.
