Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

If someone takes him they'll look like geniuses. He eats up one 5th of the salary. I would rather have a team filled with Varitek's, Ortiz's, Millar's and Timlin's, guys who love to play and guys who every day show it.... For the amount he's owed this year, they could go out and get 2 very good if not excellent pitchers to add to a rotation with Pedro, Lowe, and Kim..... Imagine Bortolo Colon on this team or Kevin Millwood??? I'd rather have either of them than Manny and his head games, his careless attitude and absolutely poor baserunning. Great Move! He was a leftover from Duquette who had to quench his ego by getting Manny after he tried so hard to get Mussina and failed. Which is why he's grossly over-paid.

Perfect move and timing... and I do mean perfect. If no team claims Manny, he will not feel so invincible, and if a team does, the Red Sox management will have plenty of shopping money. The Red Sox need to mix youth with their veterans, hit to the opposite field, add a number 1, 2, or 3 starter, keep payrole under a $100 mil (so a ring would be that much sweeter), and pray SW can stay healthy and be our closer - then the ring will be ours - be damned the Evil Empire.

Lets go Yankees! Grady as a our bench coach, Manny in the outfield and Bartolo Colon in the starting rotation. Red Sox in 2004? No better than third.

Sox go get Tejada! Guys like Manny won't every be part of a Championship Team because they think they are above the team! Manny would be perfect with NY and would lead to a BoWorSerChamp as he and Jeter could go out on the town with a couple of Visa cards!

If Manny goes, the Sox could afford a couple of good pitchers. Look at what the Marlins did with good pitching and no Manny !

I don't think he's worth that kind of money. With all the good hitters in Boston hitting behind him, Manny should have been hitting 50 HRs a year playing in Fenway. You can get a lot of good players for 104 million dollars.

Excellent move! His poor attitude will make him a tough sell. The Yankees may not even want him. He is productive but his heart (and his head most of the time) are not in the game. It may come back to haunt us but I'll take my chances. Manny, it was nice having you but good luck!

If they can replace Manny with another similar caliber hitter, but better outfielder, i.e. Vladimir Guerrero and move Nixon to left field, then this is a very sensible move. I think most players are overpaid, but Manny, for what he brings to the team, is grossly overpaid. Smart move.

Is there one day enough time? What if no one takes him on-board and comes back nex season, konwing that we don't like him really?
