Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Who really thinks that the Yanks will pick up Manny? They know that by not taking him they will cause even more problems for the Sox. It's not in thier best interests, especially when they can go after Vlad as well. Why would they want to help out the Sox at the same time? Bad move Sox, should have tried to trade him later. Noone is going to bite, and we're going to be left with a talented but demented hitter who knows he's not wanted. Great idea guys, real great.

Perfect move and timing... and I do mean perfect. If no team claims Manny, he will not feel so invincible, and if a team does, the Red Sox management will have plenty of shopping money. The Red Sox need to mix youth with their veterans, hit to the opposite field, add a number 1, 2, or 3 starter, keep payrole under a $100 mil (so a ring would be that much sweeter), and pray SW can stay healthy and be our closer - then the ring will be ours - be damned the Evil Empire.

This is a sound business move. Manny, although a very good hitter is way overpaid. They have to try to move him to free up money or they will suffer down the road. I like Manny, but hey, his contract is just stupid and I can't blame the sox for trying to be pro-active. My guess is nobody will pick him, and his salary, up and he will still be with us after this thing expires on Friday.

Derek, Boston

All I have to say is sure he doesn't hustle, or seem to give a crap if they win or lose, but he is a great hitter. If the yankees end up with him, I'll never watch the sox again. There is only so much a man can take!!!!

They should have put Pedro on waivers and kept Manny. Pedro dogged it all season and at least Manny put up very good numbers.

good riddance; guys a great hitter but has no concept of team. Should have never signed him in the first place. So Blow Sox management is admitting it made a mistake with the clown and grady little gets the ax. He did his best in getting this team to ALCS with a prima donna superstar, make that two, no bullpen and a collection of hard-working role players. Gee, i can see why grady was let go. nice move again, blow sox. Get a clue would ya! The curse? yes, there is a curse, the franchise is plagued by moron management, always has been, always will be.

The Sox front office's money saving plan is to dump Manny to make room for A-Rod when they get rid of Nomar.

This guy is not worth the money the Red Sox are spending on him. Sure he is a great slugger, but you don't get enough bang for the buck. Great move, with his salary you could replace him and shore up other weak spots.

Thanks for playin'
