What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 45 What are they thinking? We will get rid of him to pay another guy to be half as productive. At least trade him for some pitching...............If the sox's were run by a committee made sox fans, we would have 20 championships. - COnfused Joseph, Boston I'm praying that the someone picks up manny's contract. Hopefully the mets because I'm sure he'd do some damage on the Yanks against our team. Lets face it, many is one of the best players in baseball, however he is replaceable, he does cause problems in the clubhouse and I've always had my doubts that he was even happy here. Theo wants Gurrerro plain and simple, then again, who doesn't want Vlad. I have the upmost confidence in Theo and I think that the Red Sox will have the best lineup in baseball next year. Bye Bye Manny. PLEASE KEEP TROT NIXON. Tim, Beverly MA I think he should take less money and go to the Yankees. Maybe that will show the Sox a thing or two about respect. Mikey, Boston THESE OWNERS ARE PR GUYS. THEY KNOW THE FANS WOULD RATHER HAVE NOMAR AND THEY CAN'T AFFORD BOTH. HOPE NOONE EXPECTS ORTEZ TO HIT WITHOUT MANNY!!!! JUST MOVED TO OHIO....TIME TO BE AN INDIANS FAN. TIM, DUBLIN, OHIO I'm behind this Sox management group. This is the group that assembled players who are more concerned with OBP, rather than home runs. This resulted in team slugging that broke the record held by the '27 Yankees. Manny is a patient hitter, but many of his characteristics do not fit the mold of what the Sox now look for. They want high OBP, team player, some speed, high desire to win. Dan Duquette just went for raw talent, (ie: Carl Everett, Manny) and ignored many of the things that won World Series for Tampa, Anaheim, and Arizona. Besides, Manny has seen his better years. He will never get 165 RBIs again, but this is what he is paid to do. NoProblem, Merrimack The list of free agents this offseason is staggering. If another team wants him and his monsterous salary, then have at it. There are plenty of names worth pursuing and giving Manny's money to. Besides, his play is sparatic and he rarely looks like he has a coherent thought in his head. Paul, Boston Yes, the guy can put up the numbers. Yes, the guy is a quality athlete, the kind that we always say, "why can't we have guys like that?". But he's done 2 moves this season that have shown us that the good of the team is NOT his priority. We don't need another Irving Fryar in this town. Whatever the untangible is in this guy, it's trouble and the Boston Red Socks have had enough of that intangible trouble without keeping a guy that causes it. At least when Little benched him this year for one of the incidences, management backed the manager up, unlike under the last regeme Tina, Braintree Big contract, limited clutch hitting, tough in the clubhouse.... If management is going to make the big move and free up contract dollars for more valuable stars, Trot, Nomar, Derek, Jason... Then its the best move they have made so far. The real question is what is the impact if no one picks him up which is a real possibility? JFM, Stamford, Connecticut Manny can hit. Manny can hit. Manny can hit. Say it over and over again. Forget about everything else. Jeez, doesn't anybody get it? Ken, Littleton This is a non-story. No one is going to pick up a guy with $104 million left on his contract. Not even Steinbrenner is that stupid.. Especially not when Vladimir Guerrero is on the market and he can be had for 60 percent of that.
