Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

i'm a Red Sox fan, not a Manny Fan. Baseball is a team sport. Just put nine guys on the field who can produce and have the desire to win a championship and I'll support that.

Stupid move #2 since the season ended. Who is going to make up for his production in the lineup, Lou Merloni? And they make this move the same day they raise their already ridiculously high ticket prices? Nice. Go Yankees.

Nick, Charlestown

Oh no! Risking Manny will save Nomar, Pedro, Lowe, Varitek and Nixon, along with possibly bringing Guerrero and Colon to Boston.....wait a minute, why didn't we think of this earlier?

Dan, Somerville

What a great opportunity for the Yankees! Pick up the best right handed hitter in the game and get back to the World Series! And he's from NY besides. How about some others? Boggs, Clemens, Hillenbrand...etc. It is by letting players like this go that will doom the Red Sox to a baseball life of mediocrity. Who's next? Trot? Pedro? Nomar? Thank God for the wild card or the BloSox would NEVER get to the playoffs!

John , Jefferson

Why? Because these owners can't afford to keep him and sign another player? Why not? They could afford to pay 700 Million+ for the team? If they couldn't afford to pay the great players then they shouldn't have bought the team. It's not about Manny's attitude, it's about his money. These owners are all about money, and don't care about the product on the field as long as fans keep showing up. It's funny the way the "Evil Empire" can afford anyone. We need an owner who is willing to pay to keep players, as well as buy new players.

Ben, Boston

If only someone would take him via waivers or trade, even the Yankees! The Sox are better off without Dan Duquette, and would be that much better off without Manny. Thanks again Duke for Jose Offerman and Manny, the Man who wants to be a Yankee.

GOOD DEAL-GET A FEW PLAYERS LIKE MILLAR AND NIXON. ALSO THE PERFECT TIME TO GET RID OF PEDRO WHILE THEY CAN STILL GET SOMETHING FOR HIM/ FADING FAST.

DAVID, BARRE VT

To try and trade him might have been the better alternative in my view. They are trying to get King George to bite on the bait. Think about it, who would you rather have Guerrero or Ramirez? I'm not even sure he's tradable at this point in time. Might be best just to invest the money on the best shrink money can buy and tie Ramirez to the couch.

Great move.! Think about it all you "reasonable & logical" people out there. If you look close at Manny overall, his hitting is the ONLY thing good about him and for the money he gets we should be getting more. PLUS, he is NOT a team player. Manny has got to be one of the biggest cry-baby's I have seen in many years of watching baseball. He does what he wants, when he wants. If you were the owners paying his salary would YOU want him and his "attitude" for THAT kind of money every year? I think not! He is "brain-dead" on the bases, and in off-the-field behavior. I say SEE YA!

Thank god Theo is a smart man. To get rid of this non clutch hitting nut case is the best thing the Red Sox could do. And on top of that the Yankees will probably pick him up. Let them deal with Mannyworld. Theo, you will reverse the curse.
