A great move!! I can never picture Manny in a World Championship locker room, he could care less about winning. Free up the cash to sign Millwood or Colon!!!

I think its a good move to free up the team's payroll. If Manny does not get picked up, I think a trade for Soriano if available, will help the sox out. This will insert some speed in the lineup, which they lacked. Just looking at the lineup, Damon, Soriano, Nomar, Ortiz, Nixon, Mueller, Millar, Varitek. Thats a pretty good lineup, and with salary freed up a bit, they can go out and get a starting pitcher if possible.

I'm a diehard Sox fan, and I love the move. If he is claimed, they can free up some money to go after Millwood, Colon, or Vazquez. I hope they grab the best available Expos pitcher since Pedro in Vazquez. They also increase their chances of re-signing Nomar, Pedro, Trot, Varitek, and DLowe. Most importantly, it shows guts by the front office and says they are unwilling to put up with behavior that is detrimental to the team. Bravo!

Its a smart move. If you can unload his salary and sign a quality 2nd starter, then go for it. Plus, you have to re-sign Varitek and Nomar in another year. Free up some cash and secure solid defensive players who can also hit the ball.

Manny is a fantastic player. This could turn out to be a huge mistake if it backfires. If they pick up Guerrero, then it may work out to their advantage.

I think the Red Sox made a good move. Manny is a great offensive player BUT, Manny doesn't hustle, won't run out ground balls, his base running is BAD, he did not pinch hit when asked by the manager earlier in the year, and he just isn't worth 20.5 Million / year! And during the season, he said " I would love to play for the New York Yankees." That alone is grounds to get rid of him! With the $$ Sox will save, they can add another player - i.e. Batolo Colon! It would of been better, and this may still happen, if the Sox could of traded him. BK Kim, he can NOT close a game, so either he becomes a starting pitcher or TRADE him. Burket ??? Let's hope Casey Fossum comes back strong! What a plus that would be! The Boston Red Sox will be the 2004 World Series Champions!

I disagreed with Duquette when he signed Manny & I respect the Sox for trying to move him. $20M is absurd for a one dimentional player who has an attitude. Fiercesome hitter ? Maybe against Tampa Bay & the Tigers. Develop this team with the Nixon's, Veritek's & Millar's. Similar to the Celtics recent move, get rid of the overated "superstars". Pedro, unhappy with only excercising his $17.5 option for 2004 ? Trade him next; it's not just about talent, it's about an unselfish committment to the player's & the organization. Who cares if Manny becomes a Yankee ? $160M payroll & they lost to the Marlins ? Manny & Pedro represent to me everything in a professional athlete I detest.
