Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

My biggest fear is nobody claims him, meaning a constant headache will just become more intense. From a business standpoint it makes sense. $20 million for an all-hit, no-field, questionable-heart left fielder? I'd rather have the money to sign Nomar, Trot and Varitek, the last two clearly being the heart and sould of this team.

This is a good, and brave, move by the Sox. If anyone claims Manny, a huge amount of money becomes available to sign all the upcoming free agents(PITCHING!) next year...most importantly...Varitek and Lowe(and hopefully Nixon). Pitching, defense, and TIMELY hitting win championships, and aside from Manny's 3-run homer vs the A's, he gave them none of the above during their playoff run. Dave

I can't believe these Red Sox are so stupid....what reason is there for being such a 'bonehead" organization? No wonder they never win anything.

Jeff, Coatesville

If someone picks him up, then they use that money to pick up a couple of big name free agents, then I save the move is good. But if no one picks him up then the Red Sox will have more problems from Manny this year.

Jamison, Gardner

I feel badly for the fans. Why? Because no one will pick him up on waivers and no one will trade for him. And we'll have to sit and listen all next year to his incessant whinning about how unloved and unappreciated he is. In terms of production, attitude, and clubhouse leadership, he's the most overpaid player in baseball - by far.

Fred, Boston

See you later, Bye ! Hopefully Pedro is next. We want Baseball players.

Steve, Arlington

The Club shuld get rid of Manny and replace him with real athletes who have the passion for the game. Contrary to the media raves, Manny proved an easy out in when it really counted.

Wallace, Dover, NH

I hope someone is stupid enough to take him ... free up enough salary to resign the better players and bring in some decent free agent talent.

Mark, Bridgewater

Goodby Manny! Next stop? UPN-TV in his new series...."That's Manny!". In which Manny does all the goofy things that only he can get away with and when he does something, a Desi Arnaz type comes on screen with his face in his hands and says, "That's Manny!"

David, Libertyville, IL

I was very surprised. He means alot to the team. I wonder if his tiff towards the end of the season (where he didn't want to play because he was not feeling good?) had anything to do with it. On the brighter side........if you take his salary and get another front line starting pitcher and maybe a B+ reliever.....well.....it is something to think about!! Mike
