I have to say that waiving Manny Ramirez makes me want to vomit. Sure, he pulled some stupid stuff last season, but hey, nobody's perfect! Even Jason Giambi had to cut his hair and cover up his tattoos when he came to the Yankees -- he used to have long hair....and a goatee! Come on! Cowboy up, Theo, and get Vlad Guerrero, or this moves reeks of idiocy.

Nobody in their right mind will take him (note: George is not in his right mind). Stranger things have happened though (see Vin Baker). 100M will bring a lot more pitching to a hitting rich team...Manny is imminently replaceable, and it would allow the Red Sox to sign Lowe, Varitek, and either Pedro or Nomar past next year. I don't think he'll be picked up, but at least it sends a message to him, because it's likely he had no clue.

Manny is no Babe Ruth! Manny has seen his better years, and will never get 165 RBIs again. David Ortez made 1 million, to Manny's 20! I'd rather have Ortez as my cleanup hitter. I trust new Sox management who look at attitude, OBP, AND talent. Dan Duquette, who gave us Carl Everett, Jose Canseco, Manny, etc. just went for talent ONLY!

This will be a great gamble, if, indeed, ol' George in NY bites. Who else could afford him? If not, then Theo will have to trade him and probably eat some of that money the Sox owe him. That would still make room for Vladimir Guerrero in right and move Nixon to left. I hope the gamble pays off.

I applaud this decision by the Red Sox management. I feel that while Manny's presence at the plate is certainly notable, his off-the-field behavior has been a detriment to the mostly unified Boston clubhouse. I also think it is much more important to concentrate on retaining other players, especially Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra, and of course Pedro Martinez. While still unsure how I feel about the decision to let go of Grady Little, I believe that the Boston management is moving in the right direction. Red Sox 2004!!

Funniest thing I have ever seen. I am Manny's biggest fan and would hate to see him go, especially to one of the few teams that could possibly afford him. However, $20 million will go a long way in getting a couple equally productive players.
