Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Save some $$ and improve your outfield, Dump him and sign Vlad!!!!!!!

Overall this move is better than losing Nomar or Pedro because we couldn't afford to resign one or both. Hopefully a National League team will claim him, but even if the Orioles or the Yankees (God help us) claim him, this will still free up crucial payroll for us to resign Nomar, Pedro, VTek and Lowe as well as possibly signing a free agent starter. Whether that is a first tier starter like Vazquez or Colon or a second tier guy remains to be seen.

This move is questionable, and the emotions of "Game 7" may still be playing a role in it. (i.e., firing Grady). It will remain to be seen what the impact will be in the long run. This will work out if, and only if, the Red Sox can secure a true Tier 1 "Ace" pitcher as a result. If only to breathe down Pedro's neck and show him he's not the only show in town. Obviously, the Sox just need dependable pitching as well. Maybe even use the freed-up money (if it happens) to lure Keith Foulke as a closer. Dismantle the "Committee," but keep and pay the core of the team for next year.

Any one who thinks that any human being is worth 160 million needs to be put on the couch, which probably includes at least half of the Red Sox nation.

This is the best move that the Red Sox ever made. What would be even better would be if the Yankees picked him up. Talk about multiplication by subtraction!

Bad news. The new owners may be fans, but their prime focus is money. They have all read 'Moneyball' and are going to shed big salaries. I doubt anyone will pick up Manny's salary- you can get Sheffield or Vladi (and his bad back) cheaper. They have sent a signal to other clubs that they may get rid of Manny at any cost and may end up swallowing a lot of his salary anyway. Worse yet, come spring training, we may have the sort of unhappy, divisive club house atmosphere we had 2 years ago. Hope the managerial prospects know what they are getting into. Bad news.

I think it is a smart move. Manny is not producing proportionate to what he is getting paid. Let someone else take his contract and we'll spend the money two or three top line players.

If the Yankees pick Manny up (and if they hire Grady), it will serve these egomanics right. Who are they going to blame next year because THEY AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE UNDER THIS LEADERSHIP?!

Keep, Manny, Johnny, Jason, and Nomar. Deal Pedro

You people really think that one of the best teams of all time wants one of your cry babies. People we beat you this year with out Manny and we will do it again next year. People of Boston wake up and face the music your baseball team is not meant to win. So i hope that the you all enjoy this little dare by your front office cause we are not taking the bait. Just remember that in 1986 your team could nt even beat the Mets. I do feel bad for you Boston fans but then i again i don t know what its like cheering for a team that always loses GO YANKEES AND KEEP YOUR TRASH HOME IN FENWAY
