Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Good move, NOW who's dugout will he point into. He's being paid like a professional, it's time for him to act like one (somewhere else)!

ny embraced "the babe" with his many and colorful shenanigans and thrived while doing so.....how many more championships can we expect...welcome aboard, manny!!!

He's really going to be fun around the clubhouse if this doesn't work. Good luck to the next manager.

Although it is wishful thinking to think someone is going to claim Manny, that $20 million would be able to land some very good Free Agents.

I think Theo Epstein is a no good, stupid SOB along with Weiner, Henry and Lucchini. Those bastards will never bring a world championship to Boston. I wish they would sell the team.

Nomar is a fairie and deserves to be dealt. His wife is a man and he's in love with dinkus Lou, who is useles as Framingham is. Manny, on the other hand, I'll miss his strangeness. He still produces. Anyone but Guerrero would make this an injudicious move.

All I have to say is .330 avg., 30 hr., and 100 RBI's every year. So why don't you all just shut up and realize that Manny is by far the best player on the Red Sox.

Mark, Burlington, MA

There is no such thing as a bad risk for a team that hasn't won the Series in 85 years. Has anyone considered the possibility that the Sox knew ahead of time that a certain team would pick Manny up if placed on waivers? If that is the case, it makes this decision a calculated move instead of a "risk".

Rich, Norwood

Great move!!! Manny is spoiled and doesn't seem to care or respect the game of baseball. Too many time his lack of hustle and mellon collie way doesn't seem the stuff of a professional player making over $100 million dollars. Attitude is everthing and Manny's is not too positive.

Carlton, Bradfored

i think it's a good move. the team needs to make a statement that the game is bigger than any one player. manny may be a great hitter, but his fielding and base running leave a lot to be desired for the price. manny also gave a poor impression of his own desire to play as a team player. not only in refusing to pinch hit, but by refusing to speak to the media. the media in boston is tough. but, they report to the fans who eventually pay the salaries. with the potential savings we could spread the money around to keep lowe, nomar, veritek and possibly others. 106 million could go a long way.
