Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Plenty of bats in Sox lineup...Frees up $ for others and allows them to upgrade LF defense...

Imagine not having this lazy spoiled unmotivated crybaby on the team. I for one, would miss watching dog it in the outfield, not running out groundballs. looking like he could care less. I feel he is underpaid, and to pay him more all the lower employees of the red sox should be let go, and the fans pay a one dollar surcharge on there ticket. dump this dude, or trade him even for a 1970 yurgo

david, Uxbridge

Good move - and long overdue - IF they are lucky enough to find someone dumb enough to take on this petulant, immature, nitwit, his baggy pants and ridiculous contract. $20 million per year should pay for several REAL ballplayers.

Bigfoot, Rockledge, FL

For months we heard about clubhouse atmosphere. For that reasion alone in my judgement the last 2 moves were wrong. It would be nice if the players did not have personalities which infuriated the fans but that's life. With the venom expressed by fans one has to wonder if a player feels it's worth playing here. Maybe you have to be like Manny to put up with he abuse. When the red sox accept the resume for potential managers they better have a letter of resignation dated 10/1/2004 becuase if next years team doesn't make the playoffs guess whose head is on the line.I think most fans would have accepted moving Pedro rather than to give up an RBI machine who can exist in Boston without the approval of the fans. Not everyone can.

Lets all remember that the Mariners & A's are not the model here! They have won nothing and gotten no further than the Sox. The Sox are the only team other than the Yankees to go to the ALCS more than once in the last 5 years. Look at the World Series winners. Marlins, Angels, Diamondbacks, Yankees of 98 - 00. They all had a BALANCED attack of pitching, offense, defense and good fundamentals with an emphasis on pitching. Yanks have thier share of sluggers, like us they need pitching. Look for the Dodgers to try and swap thier over priced pitchers for our overpriced slugger.

Obviously the owners knew more about the man/child than we did. We can use the money to get Andy P. We need a pitcher more than we need someone who smiles when he strikes out with the bases loaded. Good luck to Manny wearing pinstripes.

Trudi, Mashpee

are you serious. manny is the hottest lil mama on that team, yankees is gonna buy him and beat us next year dir they are evil! D0MiNICAN POWER!!!

stephany, lynn, ma

The Sox are doing the right thing, and hopefully other teams in MLB will follow suit in attempt to correct the ridiculous salary market. $26 million (combined 2004 for Manny and Walker) could likely get Vlad as well as a number 2 starter (Millwood?). Regardless, let's give young Theo some credit for some forward thinking.

John, Marshfield

Good if the sox are going to get Vlad...or a another quality free agent every day player like Shannon Stewart and and a top pitcher like Millwood.

Get rid of the lazy worthless non loyal bum
