Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

BIG MISTAKE. Manny is ranked #2 of all major leaguers by the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau. And think of all those championships we have won because of Manny! We should wake up every morning and give thanks to the Baseball Gods for having such deities as Manny and Kim (who by the way is ranked #2 in AL relievers by above mentioned vaulted sports service).

Tell him to take Pedro with him.

Definately a good idea. $104 million could buy 3 or 4 quality players. I think they also should trade Pedro Martinez while they can still get something for him.

I think it's a move that will keep the true core of the team together. It's not hard to find another fielder with Manny's stats. Plus, I also think that there are batters on the roster that can make up for Manny being absent from next year's team. Overall, good move. Let's just hope Red Sox management doesn't allow any other good players slip away.

As a former MA citizen now transplanted to Marlin's turf, I am glad they are dumping Manny. Boston is reknown for their overpaid, 'babies'. It is sad that they only way to field a team is to buy it. No one seems to have any loyalty or pride to play for an organization. True, it cuts both ways but sooner or later the average paying fan is going to say that the cost of attending a game in ole Fenway is no longer a good VALUE.

I say good riddance. Even though he is a great hitter, he seems at times to not care about helping the team. He has publicly stated that he wants to play for the Yankees. Epstein should use that money and get another quality starter and/or reliever. That will more than make up for the loss of RBI's from Ramirez. With the other good hitters the Sox have, they won't suffer at all.

John, Tampa

Good riddance. He has no work ethic, and he's a liar. Calling in sick and then going out to a bar?

Chris, Boston

I want Manny out of the Red Sox team for good! because of his bad behavior problems and $20 million per year. No way! By the way, If the Yankees wants Manny then the Yankees will become bad luck family. Manny is too EGO problems plus Pedro too. I wish that I want Pedro out of the team for good. I wish the Red Sox should find the right path to the World Series next year. Pedro and Manny must leave now!

Most of the responses on this board have proved my theory that although there may be many good Colleges and Univerities in Boston there is no way anyone from around here is smart enougt to go to them. Does any one think that if the Sox get rid off Manny, Nomar, and Pedro that they will actually replace them with anyone of value? There is no way that guys like Millar, Ortiz, and Walker will have years like the past one in the future. Without the stars, the Sox would be lucky to beat the Orioles or even the Devil Rays in the standings. Sometimes I am convinced that people around here would rather have a team of "local boy" stiffs like Merloni rather than All Star caliber players.
