Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Manny is a great power hitter, probably the best in all of the American League. At his price tag and antics how many more David Ortiz, Kevin Millars, and Bill Muller's can Theo come up with.

I fear that the Yankees will grab Manny and turn him into another curse. But, the Bosox need the money to acquire pitching and keep some of its quality players beyond 2004. It's a gamble, but go for it!!!

Dick, McAllen. Texas

Talk about a gamble! I guess if Manny stays he couldn't really be a bigger flake. The game now is all about pitching and payroll and the Sox need to go after the arms big time and replace Manny with a player like Jose Guillen who would free up the cash and play the wall better than Manny. The Sox already have enough bats. They need the arms to battle the Empire.

Mike, Chicago

A good move, but not likely to work, he is too expensive and too much of a turkey and jerk. Why not put Martinez, who is an even bigger jerk, on waivers with him?

Dr.Tom, Nedrland, Texas

He's a very good player but not worth the money they are paying him. I would rather use that money on a top pitcher. Bonehead move by Duquette to sign him for as much and as long as he did. I hope someone signs him.

Michael, Chelmsford

Hopefully the Stankees will bite. Sox need pitching, pitching and more pitching! Vlad stays in Canada anyway. Go get Vidro!

Steve, Alexandria, VA

The Red Sox are complete meatheads! Manny is their best player..

Joe, Northshore

Don't let the door hit ya in the a$$ on the way out, Manny. I'd rather have one less good slugger than have to deal with him in town. He makes us all look bad, and I can't wait to be rid of him. Yeah, the Yankees will probaby nab him, and do great things with him, and yeah, he'll probably wave it in our faces, but I'll be glad to have him out of my town. Punk.

he's a huge bat that could be tough to replace. if someone claims him, the cash that is freed up will be nice. but what happens if he's not picked up? he's coming back to a team that tried to get rid of him...his attitude will be even worse. this move could go either way, but i like the ownership having the balls just to make the move

Jeff, Boston

This is a scary move by Red Sox management, but with this season's antics, I sometimes wonder if Manny is really a team player! I hope no one picks up the waiver but it certainly indicates that management might be willing to trade him. Perhaps if it comes to that, we could get another high quality starter like Pedro.
