There are teams out there that have the money to sign Manny besides the Yanks. The Phillies have a $60 million payroll, and are moving into a new stadium and should see revenue to sign him. Texas doesn't mind spending and just got out of Juan Gone and Rafael Viagra's contracts. Let him go NOT play for another team.

Manny has been a great hitter his entire career. However he is a marginal fielder and a distraction in the clubhouse due to his extremely poor attitude. I believe this move is a good one, I am not convinced that anybody will jump on him at his current contract price. I think teams will wait it out to see if a trade for Manny would be more financially beneficial. I am not concerned about Manny's attitude if this blows up cause his attitude cannot get any worse than it is now

Get rid of Manny, who cares? The Red Sox suck and will never win a World Series. They'll always be the bridesmaid and never be the bride. All management cares about now is making money by jacking up ticket prices every year. Do you honestly think Pedro, Nomar and the rest of the "soon to become" free agents are going to want to resign with the Red Sox after seeing what management just did to Manny? I very much doubt it.

This is wonderful news! I didn't think any team had the gumption to make such a move, let alone the Red Sox. Hooray for Henry, Luccino, Epstein et. al. for dumping this selfish malcontent. "Moneyball" lives. Bring back Hatteberg and hang on to Youkilis.

I'm still in shock, but after you wonder what Teo is thinking, was a brilliant move!, even if doesn't work, we have Guerrero cheaper than Manny and better player. if another team take Manny, Yankees, they can't take Colon and Vasquez neither Guerrero and Pettite so the worse scenario is that Manny is gone but the team win.

Bad Move (aren't we tired of being out maneuvered by the Yankees!). 1) The Yankees won't and 2) we are left with a disgruntled and/or demoralized player. Sox should trade Manny and get the most they can and eat the rest of the salary.
