Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

This is a smart move for the Sox! This saves money for "Sox" players: Lowe, Nixon, Nomar and Varitek. Maybe room for Vlad?? I hope!

A, Boston

Sure, lets also get rid of Tim Wakefield, Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra, Todd Walker, Jason Varitek, Scott Williamson, and every other team member that made huge contributions to the Sox's success this year! Maybe the Sox front office can get a raise too while we're at it!

I don't like Manny either...but who's gonna protect me next season in the clean-up spot? Get Colon and Millwood Nomar Hamm, Southern California

Todd, New Britain, CT

Hey it seems to work for the Patriots. Too bad the Red Sox don't play in the NFL. I think the Red Sox are screwed up. Pedro will be pissed. Baseball is a game of chemistry, and the dolts in ownership thinks it doesn't matter.

John, Allston

This whole thing makes me nervouse for two reasons. 1. The yankees may very well end up with Manny. He would certainly come back to haunt the Sox. This year wasn't a great year for him and he still put up good numbers. If he goes to New York and gets fired up because of it he could have a monster season there. God I'd hate to see him put up numbers like a .340 b.a, 45 homers and 150 RBI's for the, gulp, Yankees. 2. If nobody wants him then the Sox are dealing with a pampered superstar the feels like he's on a team that doesn't want him. Great.

Manny is the second highest paid baseball player in baseballŠ.and although one of the best hitters, is severely overpaid. His contract is a hinderance to Epstien while he tries to make other moves. Considering that a $10 million a year deal is very high in todayıs ³new² baseball economy, I think the Sox would do very well to cut ties with Manny and go after two solid starters. Making a move with Manny also gives management a lot more flexibility in the coming year dealing with our plethora of free agents. And I am giddy just thinking about the turmoil that Manny could create in the Yanks clubhouse!

Scott, Stamford, CT

Dumb move. This combined with everything else, I don't see Sox in the ALCS for at least another 3 or 4 seasons.

Doug, Weymouth

good riddence. we need to make more room for people who actually care about the game. a higher batting average is not as important as getting the good hits at the right time.

Shhh....Don't tell the Yankees they're being played. If the Yanks bite on Manny, then they won't have the cash to spend on the free agent crop, plus they'll have Manny in *their* clubhouse, not ours. Nice move, Theo. Let's hope Steinbrenner goes with the plan.

Get rid of this clown - and his pal Pedro -
