What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Page 73 Sometimes team chemistry and desire count as much as the numbers. How many of us would enjoy working with a Manny Ramirez personality in our offices? He's a person with a huge talent that has not displayed as intense a desire for winning as most of his teammates. Unfortunately, in future years, Yankee fans may be mentioned in the same stinking breath as Babe Ruth. Manny as the New Curse. Mike, Mine Hill, NJ This frees up money for the others like Nomar, Trot, Varitek etc. Yes we will miss his bat but it gives them more options - see Danny Ainge. tony, saugus Good Move Theo... About time especially with his LAZAIRE FAIR ATTITUDE!!!!! Paid too much and Got little in return for what we saw. I'll take a team of John Damon's and Trot Nixon's in the outfield anyday. GOOD BYE Manny and SAY HELLO NEW YORK!!!!!! Bernie, Belmont Pure guts by Theo. I love the move. Wow. That could really help the team moving forward. You do lose a significant offensive contributor, but he can be replaced (Guerrero and many other FA's are available) and they'd certainly improve on D. More importantly, it may be addition by subtraction from a team perspective and it allows them to go out and make the moves they need to, including getting a top flite SP and signing their FA's. This may take them out of the running for Colon now, though, and I doubt Pedro will be back after next season. Jeff, Brooklyn, NY Manny is a great player, best pure hitter in baseball. He makes everyone else look better in the lineup, they'll pitch around Manny. Ortiz is a good hitter, but do you think without Manny batting in front of him he would have got good pitches to swing at. This is pure money move, if they can sign some good pitching and some more offense with the money they save it could be a good move. But if Manny stay's I also think they'll be OK if they can still sign a couple of more pitchers. For those who want to get rid of Pedro, I say they don't realize what a proud and fierce competitor we have. The guy is exciting to watch. He is the best pitcher in baseball. John, Arlington Yanks Rule!! Manny does not! frank, Waltham Boston loves to hate its sports heros. Here is yet another in a long string of great players (some of whom were, no doubt, headcases while in Boston) that will go on to Hall of Fame greatness. And it is not limted to the Red Sox, its all of your teams. Sorry you can't enjoy them, we certainly will! Finn, New York Manny produces so I would keep him and put up with his prima donna ways. Pedro should go to get a pitcher that can throw more than 75 pitches. Harry, Natick i think its a great idea i hope somebody takes him it gives us more money to spend on 1 or possibly to front line starters. it also frees up money for future payroll to resign there core players (nomar, pedro, lowe, varitek) tony, framingham Moot question, I highly doubt any team will pick up Ramirez' contract. Yankees won't bite because their plans are reportedly to obtain a CF or move Soriano to CF, and then move Bernie Williams to left & Matsui to right.
