Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

I think this is stupid. Manny might be a jackass to the media, but that's because the Boston media is way too harsh itself. He produces (excpet for the Yankee series) HR's and RBIs and he has won the batting title and finished one point behind the winner this year! Why release such a great player?!

I hope someone picks the bum up. He has demonstrated time and again he thinks he is special. I do not see how he nor anyone els can justify his salary. Sure he had a few key hits scattered through out the season but when it counted the most what did he do? Also, I am too weak to hit. That is no excuse! What else is he going to dream up I can't field the ball because I have the sniffles. HE is a bum and was never worth the money. His head was as large as his salary.

What if we had message boards that asked questions like, "What do you think about President Bush witholding documents from the 9/11 commission?" or, "What do you think about cutting funding for services for the mentally retarded?" or, "What do you think about the week's events in Iraq?"

Who did we have to give up to get Manny? No one. Who's dumb enough to sign him and his monstrosity of a contract. The Yankees. Adios and don't let the door hit you on your way out of your penthouse.

Andrew, Windham, NH

Say what you want about Manny, I think he'll be sorely missed...... the man can swing the bat. Period. That's his job and he did it. Came in 2nd for the title.... Don't tell me the man doesn't work!

I don't want to lose Manny, but I would like to lose his contract. I think it would create an interesting situation if someone else were to claim Manny. The Sox might be able to keep most of their real core of Varitek, Nixon, Pedro, Nomar and Lowe together after next season. The Manny contract is a real hindurance to keeping them together right now.

It seems like the bambino all over again. If he ends up with the yankees next year and bangs out an unremarkable season I will not watch the red sox ever again . The last couple of decisiions by the front office have been short term fixes to all there problems next season will be one of the worst seasons for the Red Sox to date. There was a love in the last years ball team that no other team in the league had and now it seams that we are trying to move the oppisite direction of that. I lived in Boston for 19 years before moving to Atlanta. Maybe it's me not being in Boston now that makes me feel this team is slowly going down. They should know that dynastiesare not made over night there is a hardworking path toward that. And it seems we took 1 step foward and 5 steps back.

Gerard, Atlanta Ga.

Excellent move! Slim down the bloat.
