Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

Manny murders average pitchers, but is at best just ok against top hulers who throw hard up and in. When your in the post season what quality pitching do you face?? The Best, check out Manny's post seasons with Cleveland, and of couse this year with the SOX a BUST No one will claim except George or possibly that dope in Baltimore..Angelos.

On the surface this seems risky, but if another team picks Manny up it may turn out well. His $20 million/year salary could go a long way in today's market.

If they use the money for long-term stability of team (i.e. locking up , Nomar, Tek, et al), then it's a great move. Could also wind up helping the pitching staff, as Manny's a defensive liability.

Neil, Portland, OR

Fine with me as long as you are going to use that money on a Vladmir Guerro or some other player that is close to Manny in offensive statistics but if you are going to use it to bring in two or three average players then bad move. We need all the hitting we can get seeing as though Walker is gone.

Marty K, North Andover

I definitely have mixed feelings. I see why it makes sense from a "trying to free up money to try to get 5 more Millars/Muellers/Ortiz'", but look at the numbers both w/ us and before. Manny is just a consistently phenominal hitter. Better than anyone else in the game over the long haul. I don't know if you give that up.

Tom, Pembroke

This is a sound prudent move, that will now allow the Red Sox retain more of the core team. By releasing Manny, that will free up $25 million +, per year, which can be now used to finance future Pedro, Nomar, Jason Veritek, Derek Lowe, and Trot Nixon contracts. Plus, when this is added to the $3.4 Million that the team declined to Todd Walker, it makes even more sense. I also believe "Herr Boss" is arrogant enough to assume the remaining five years of his contract. Should he need a personal reference, he can contact Enrique Wilson.

John, Andover,

This is ridiculous!

Beth, Boston

Excellent Idea! I totally approve and hope that he is picked up by someone. MANDOZA SHOULD ALSO BE RELEASED. We (Red Sox) need stronger frontline and bulpen pitching, and with the likes of Millwood, Colon, Foulke and possibly Pettitte available VIA free agency, I say GO FOR IT! NOTE: I'm intrigued by Luis Castillo and Vladimir Guerrero. Timlin, Lowe, Pedro, Nomar and Veritek should all finish their careers in Boston.

Samuel, Nassau, The Bahamas

Manny isn't goin anywhere ,and all you did is give him one more excuse to complain about Boston. Let's just accept the fact that he's here for at least a few more years. If he goes anywhere were still gonna pay for him anyway except he'll be putting up the numbers somewhere else. So why not with us. As for saving for the other players it still remains to be seen if half of them want to be here anyway. It is the red sox...

Ian, Manchester ct,

Great !!!! We don't his attitude.Get rid of Pedro next......
