Man oh Manny

What do you think of the decision to put Manny Ramirez on irrevocable waivers? Will another team -- (gulp) Yankees -- take on the $104 million remaining on his eight-year, $160 million contract? If no team claims Ramirez, will the All-Star slugger get traded?

First it was Grady Little who was sacrificed for the Game 7 to NY. Now they Hang Manny out to dry. All I can say is that the Curse of Manny will come to fruition, especially if he lands in Yankee pinstripes.

The naysayers do not get it...this is a brilliant move. Theo and crew realize pitching wins titles. They know they can acquire 3/4 of Manny's power for a lot less money. Plus, Manny's post season numbers are crap. This a monetary assault to get Colon or Millwood or...and it means they are keeping Nomar. Bottom line is this was an exclamation point on their goal to win a title now.

Could it be? A sign of the times? The first time a baseball player decides to restructure his contract? NOT

Tony, Marlboro

What took them so long!!??. This is GREAT, if it works! This is a huge roll of the dice as I'm not sure too many teams out their (even the Evil Empire payroll is too bloated) will want to pick up his contract with only 26 hours to spare before the deadline. It's SO obvious that Manny is not happy in Boston, and it would be good for the team (financially) and Manny for him to go. The reasons I hope this works is that Manny is SLOW on the bases, and he seems to cause more friction in the clubhouse than his diminished output at the bat can sustain. He is definitely not worth $20 Mil+ per year, but he is a good hitter, and any team would be welcome to have him. But this is a good strategic move for the Sox, as it will allow a lot more breathing room to re-sign current players, or go after the perennial achilles heel of the Sox: a weak starting rotation (sans one star pitcher). So Theo and Larry should spend that savings on a killa Starting Pitcher and Reliever. With Manny seemingly so un-happy here, his heart just isn't into it. How many still remember the total travesty last year in Tampa Bay when Manny never even left the Batters Box after grounding out. Stuff like that is outrageous and also the stunts he pulled this year with his "Sick Day." And Nixon, Walker, Varitek and Millar can more than make up for the hole if Manny leaves. (Maybe they are doing this to free up funds to re-sign Nomaaaa? ) Anyway, this is a good business move for the Sox (if another team bites, of course), and Manny seems like a nice fellow. But Manny, we hardly knew yee.

See ya Manny !!! Don't let the Pedro's fastball hit you on the way out! Pedro should be next!!!

Marie, Boston

I hope Manny goes to the Cubs so Chicago's curse is lifted. Can't wait for the Manny and Sosa combo. Priceless!

Ricardo Vasquez, Champaign, IL

Good move. Now dump Pedro his years are numbered and trade Nomar for Tejada.

Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out...bring on a QUALITY player who actually wants to play for this team!

Jerome, Boston

Although Manny is one of the best hitters in the game, I doubt he would be a fit for the Yankees because of their conservative style. (Can you see Manny keeping a consistent hairstyle?)

BigSoxFan, Somewhere

I like it! He is a one-dimensional ballplayer;great hitter,to be sure, but brings nothing else to the table. His lack of hustle drove me crazy from spring training through Oct. Seeing him come to the plate wearing pinstripes is a scary sight, but if we can land Guerrero, we'll be ahead of the evil ones.
