Pedro is selfish and self-centered. Blaming others for suggesting he has shoulder problems is ridiculous. You just have to look at his pitching. He is not worth it. How could he demoralize his team like this when they are facing the best hitting team around? Bye bye Pedro. Plese don't plan on pitching game 7 of the World Series.

Let him go. As inconsistant as he is he only deserves in the 8-10 million category. If soemone is silly enough to pay him more, all the power to them. Don't forget, Ramon played out at an early age also. Nothing kills payroll more than 15 million on the DL. I thank him for what he has done for us. He is the best pitcher of this generation, and we have paid him as such, and treated him as such. Now it's time to move on. Thank you Pedro for all the great years, but if 8-10 million isn't enough to play in Boston, we wish you the best.

First of all all of us redsox fans lets try to not forget our very sad past.... and remember that this guy (pedro martinez ) has been a great pitcher for us and redsox management has made many mistakes in the past (babe ruth, roger clemens....may i go on? and just the thought of him going to the yankees gives me chills....and in these day and age what player is not selfish?....so my message to redsox management is jus sign the guy......just to keep him away from the yanks......

Whine, whine, whine - I just read through all the comments here - seems to me as if they aren't too many Pedro lovers here - this guy is a pain in the A**! 17.5 Million - ain't enough? He's overpaid, let him go - we'll never win until we get rid of all the "I's" on this team! As Boston Rob says - SEE YA LATA!

The money that the Red Sox have given Pedro(93.5 million-almost one-tenth of a BILLION) should negate all the whining and crying and poor me talk. If I had the summer job that Pedro has, I would be very grateful to the people that sign my check (The loyal fans). I average 12 games a year, and I will never, ever STOP believing in the RED SOX!

How much is a pitcher with a fastball in the mid 80's and a damaged shoulder worth in the free agent market ?. Red Sox mgmt. is probably thinking about that too and if they aren't they shouldn't be in Mgmt. Good luck Pedro with your new team next year. PS I hope it is New York ...they deserve you..

I have always felt that Pedro in his prime was the best pitcher I have ever seen. I think he is past his prime, though, and the Sox should let him go and get younger. The same holds true for Nomar. It's too bad Pedro and Lowe feel the way they do. I know that they are being selfish and ungrateful, but I guess that happens to a lot of people who are lucky enough to have the skills they have. The grateful athlete is a thing of the past, I'm afraid.

If Pedro Martinez's goal is to make it easier for him to sign elsewhere--even with the New York Yankees--he is accomplishing that goal with a flourish. The backlash he could build from Red Sox Nation might very well resemble the reception Manny got after being spotted eating lunch with Enrique Wilson. He certainly is making the decision easier for management, both in his talking and in his 04 performance.

Too often, he's become a pain in the @ss! He whines and cries about lack of respect . . . move on. A couple of years ago, he was on the verge of legendary status in New England. We could already see his retired number out in right field and the Sox were busy making him the highest paid pitcher in baseball . . . at the time, his performance seemed to have earned it. We all knew game 7 was going to be pivotal in Pedro's career . . . he pitched well, he did not pitch great . . . and this year, he's getting hit alarmingly hard . . . it's time for a divorce. It's been a good relationship for 6 years, but I suspect his year 7 year will end up much like his game 7.

There are several thoughts; 1. You have to respect Pettite who wouldn't go to the Sox because he couldn't do it to the fans. If Pedro goes to the Yanks, it shows you how litle respect he has for anyone but himself. Everyone knows he isn't a team player, him leaving the team "without knowledge of the rules" were ridiculous. If he wants to leave, leave, but choose a team other than the Yankees. 2. I don't know what the team offered him, but from what I hear the team isn't that interested in signing him. I agree that the owners are showing no respect or any interest of retaining players with their low/rock bottom offers. It get old and embarrasing as a fan when the team has the money yet cries poverty and belly aches of the Evil Empire having unlimited resources. The line of beign finacialy responsible is a pathetic excuse for "we're cheap." 3. The team offence is anemic, when you have Crespo ending the inning and being the tying run what does that say about your bench? 4. The thought of Theo and company ot lettign us dowN. I don't remember a World Championship. Until that happens they have let us down. 5. I doubt that with a cut payroll we'll see ticket prices go down. Its all about getting the most money out of us and into their pockets. 6. What is the point of having a movie of past season that ended in humiliation and embarrasment? Its almost like Van Gogh had a good idea mailing a severed ear to the local hooker. But then again sending an eye ball with the note"I'll keep an eye out for you ." wouldn't fly. 7. Win win situation. Even if we fail again, there is reassuranc ethat the hidden plan of trading the free agents to be for top prospects will replenish the farm and perhaps we can get them back in the off season. 8. Tek is the heart and soul of the staff, he must be signed. But overall logic has never been a forte with this organization or any other yahoo who put on a suit and sat at a desk at Fenway.
