Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season. Page 22 Pedro is way too emotional, reactive, and fragile (emotionally and physically). Try to sign Ortiz, Lowe, Nomar, and Varitek. Let Pedro and his 86mph fastball go. Sean, Weston Explain to me how an individual who has made over 90 million dollars from a professional sports organization gives that organization an explaination of " He needs" to make a living" as one reason for not negotiating a new contract. I think he is a selfish individual that shows no loyalty or integrity to the organization that made him wealthy. He makes more money in one hour than most people do in a day. he should be ashamed of himself. Who needs someone like that to represent "SOXNATION". Let the Yankees have him they are a bunch of whiners anyway!!! GO SOX !!!!! Wayne , Billerica See ya, why wait till the end of the year? Trade him for a good young arm. I have said for a long time that despite how good he is, he is WAY too much of a head case and a distraction. I would not even care if he went to the Yankees, as I think his best years are way behind him. Dan , Cuba, MO-by way of Cambridge MA Hey Pedro - NO MORE DIVAS for this team! Good-bye! You want to be a Yankee, then don't let the door hit you on your way out.... Here's a tip -- if you're going to act like a Diva, then maybe you should PITCH like a Diva. Your attitude is selfish, and your fast ball is anything but! So before you go whining to the press, maybe you should make sure you can pitch more than 4 innings!!! SHAME ON YOU!!! Lori, Raymond Normally, when reports have come out that would make one believe that Pedro is unhappy, I usually just take them with a grain of salt. However, this time is different. I've seen video and heard audio, to prove that Pedro actually said these things. Personally, I think that if they can, they should trade him now. I imagine that this is not going to go away, and judging by his performance saturday night, this is going to affect him, and ultimately affect the team. The New England Patriots won a Super Bowl because of Team Unity, and last year, the sox came close, because of team unity. The last thing they need this year, is someone breaking up that unity, especially with all the guys that will be free agents next year. I honestly believe this may be the last legitimate shot to win a tiltle for a few years, because of the guys that will be free agents, and the fact the sox may not be able to sign all of them. Pedro is just going to bring the team down, and his performance is going to dwindle as well. The one thing that irked me the most is how he was whining about the sox claiming his shoulder was a risk, and how that was 'dirty'. His shoulder is a risk-every year that he's been on this team, he has missed some starts due to shoulder problems. Last year wasnt the case, only because they took care of him, and didnt expect him to pitch 9 innings, and throw 130 pitches every time out. Also, his fast ball has not reached above 90 MPH this season-obviously something is wrong, and most likely is relating to the shoulder. He's not as dominate as he used to be, but he's still good, I like the way he pitches, but I think its time to let him go Bobby, Westfield Less Talk, more Fastball. Do your talking on the field, and earn your 17+ Million. Steve, Westford Let him go.... his shoulder is junk.... you don't go from 95 MPH to 89 MPH on the fastball without some type of injury... He's fakin his way through the exam right now and trying to get the big longterm cause he knows he's all done... if they sign him they're suckers Joe, Littleton EXTREMELY BAD TIMING!!! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO TEAM CHEMISTRY. IF HE THINKS HE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE TEAM, THEN PACK UP AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT BE MADE PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY WITH THE FIASCO ALREADY GOING ON WITH MANAGEMENT'S BOTCHED SUMMER DEALINGS. ROBERT, TWINSBURG, OHIO "He is a pitcher in the twilight of his career." Are these Thoe Epstien's words? If the Sox can open up the bank for scrubs like BH Kim and Ramiro Mendoza, they should open the wallet to sign the greatest pitcher to ever live. If Pedro goes to NY, I will become a Yankee fan. Billy, Manchester NH I think that Pedro has the right to test Free Agency but at the same time he shouldn't expect to make the same money he's getting now since he is obviously not the same pitcher he once was. Also, he shouldn't be bringing up contract problems at this time since the Red Sox have been on such a roll and it will just cause controversy in the locker room and in the city with the fans. If he thinks he can make $17 million with the Yankees then good luck to him!
