Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season. Page 23 I think at his level Pedro should should know that you do not mess with a hot streak!!! They had not lost in more than a week until he spewed his crap, then they get swept. He needs to demonstrate some leadership and shut his mouth. If he were to lead this team to a championship, He would own the town and get the cash that he deserves. I have troulble worrying that he can't live off his 18 million plus per year. Why doesn't he take Manny's lead and just do his job and be a leader this team deserves. Paul, Boston Exactly Pedro, enough is enough. We the fans are fed up with your attitude and disrespect for the fans, your teamates, and Red Sox management. You are not the pitcher you once were. You are just another #3 or 4 starter now. I don't care where you go I'll just be glad when you and your wonderful attitude are gone. See ya. Good Riddance. Chuck, Dover, NH Hey I love Pedro, but in this he is being foolish. He won what 14 games last year to be paid what 17.5 million. That is something around 1.3 million a win. At what point can a fan no longer stomach this greed. Schilling, arguably a much better pitcher signed for 12 million a year. If Pedro desparately needs Yankees 20 million a year, then let him go. Sign Morrison, or someone else that is younger and more durable. Wakefield will win 14 games this year. And he will do it without complaining, being put in the bullpen, skipped in the rotation, and all with a smile on his face. He will also do it for about 5 million a year. Hmm... Bryan, Boston Oh, for heaven's sake... GO, then, Pedro! Just go. Have fun throwing the ball until you break down wherever you end up. Just spend your ridiculous amounts of money, and annoy some other team's fans with your fragile ego, perceived slights, and prima-donna attitude. Texas is doing fine without A-Rod (and whupped you this past weekend), and Boston will survive post-Petey. Really, amigito, it will. Kurt, Old Orchard Beach, Maine So the season is barely 20 games old, yet we've already had Pedro be a distraction not once, but twice. First, he didn't respect his teammates or The Game enough to stick around for the finish of a contest where he pitched poorly, now we have to hear, AGAIN, how little respect poor Pedro gets from the Sox ownership. To make matters worse, he goes out the next night and pitches like he belongs in double A. So I say, "shut the **** up and PITCH." Concentrate on the task at hand and get guys out - that is what you are paid to do. Do you realize that you're the highest paid pitcher in the game? Try acting like a professional for once in your career. Someone will be stupid enough to reward you with a rich, multiyear contract this offseason (Tom Hicks?) - fortunately for us Sox fans it looks like it won't be Boston. Varitek and Nomar are the priority, along with Ortiz. I'd like to see them keep D Lowe but only if it is for reasonable $$. My $.02. See 'ya. Dave, Wappingers Falls, NY Pedro has assembled some bulletproof stats during his stay w/ the Sox. However I'm so happy he's gonna be outta here. His bitching about everything has really alienated all my buddies in the Nation. What a poison he's become. If the Sox braintrust is as sharp as I belive they are, start working on a trade that Pedro is willing to accept, and get his butt out of town ASAP. He whines like a spoiled little rich kid. Don't forget to shut the lights out when you leave Pedro, we'll win it all w/o ya. GO SOX!! russell , alexandria, va Let him go, he's beginning to be a pain in the u know where. The man thinks he's the best, well, I don't and I think he thinks he can just waltz in and do what he wants and when he wants. He hasn't pitched very well as far as I'm concerned. He's paid too much already. Cathy, North Dartmouth I am sick of his B.S. Let him walk! The Sox were on a nice little winning streak. Game 7 of last years ALCS is a distant memory. We are ready for this year. We have a staff of 6 excellent starters, we are on a roll. Then out of nowhere, this jerk comes out and drops a bomb on Red Sox Nation. He should have kept this behind closed doors. I don't feel sorry for a man who will make 17.5 million this year and complain he needs more. He takes advantage of his ability to pitch. He thinks we all owe him one. Instead of complaining about his contract, he should be appreciative to MLB and their fans for what we've done for him. How many times has he been late for spring training? How many times has he taken games off because the Sox weren't in a pennant race? Curt Schilling came Boston to Win. We want winners and team players. Please leave town so we can fill your void with people who want to win and dont complain about a contract. Do not hold it over our heads. Pedro, your complaining and the way you USE the media for personal reasons is getting old. Take your money and go to a team/city who will put up with it. On your way home, can you please pick Ty Law up in Miami? he is another one whose time has come. Scott, Wakefield On second thought, maybe it's time to put the man to work. No pampering. Let's get that 17.5 million out of him, and let him walk at the end of the year. Most likely, he breaks down well before, and ends up signing a contract for far less. And, if he can hack it, then maybe he can justify his money. Steve, Westford $17.5 million this year. Highest paid pitcher in baseball. If you have only 1 game you HAVE to win and you have to pick 1 pitcher in ALL of baseball to win it, would you want this guy and his fragile arm, and 105 maximum pitch count before he starts getting shelled, taking the hill for you? I didn't think so...see ya later Pedro.
