If Pedro thinks that he is treated poorly by sox mgt, let him go to new york and see how well the bronx fans treat him after an outing like his last one. Pedro has never really got booed in fenway, but he certainly will in Yankee stadium if he doesn't produce. How good would his fragile feelings be then?

Pedro is going to be Pedro. After Friday's discussion with the media, if he continues to put himself above the team, again, he will have earned the right to sit down on the bench. The Boston Red Sox do not need Pedro Martinez to win a World Series, nor do they need anyone else who cannot grasp the team concept. If the unfortunate situation occurs, a suggestion would be to see which teams would be interested in acquiring Pedro and review what the Sox could get in return. Meanwhile the focus should be on the season while taking mental notes about the players the team needs to sign. These players should be acknowledged for having a positive attitude and those who consider themselves part of the team FIRST like Varitek, Ortiz, Williamson, Garciparra, Lowe, etc. Until Pedro learns baseball is a team sport than he should not be allowed to participate with the team ala Terry Glenn or be handled in a similar respect like Lawyer Milloy or Ty Law. Unfortunately we're in the middle of the season and he can only do more harm if his egocentric attitude persists. If Pedro disrespects the Boston Red Sox with further actions because he is not getting what he wants, he will have proven that he has not EARNED respect from the media, fans or his teammates.

I would be surprised if any team gave him a contract more than 2 years/$20 million. Unfortunately, he will be suffering the same fate as his brother Ramon: a bum shoulder. If he doesn't want to play for Boston next year, fine. I can live with that. Sign another pitcher. I'd like to keep Varitek and Nomar, but if they walk, we have a stud catcher in Kelly Shoppach just about ready (watch for him in Sept.) and Hanley Ramirez might be ready to take over for Nomar. Of the 4 though, I would like to keep Varitek. The others, especially Pedro, can all be gone. Maybe even trade Pedro by the break for some good young talent.
