Pedro prepared to walk?

Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season.

We asked what you thought of the ace's comments, and Red Sox Nation spoke out in droves. Check out our reader comments.

I say Pedro is justified in holding out and he should try to get all the money he can. If he wants, I can give hime my aganet's number too!

I for one am sick and tired of hearing Martinez complain aboout all things Red Sox. Given the fact that he has either lost some of his ability, or is just not performing due to the politics of contract negotiations, the Red Sox may be taking the correct line by not offering to extend his contract. Maybe he should go to the Yankees (which, I suspect is where he'll end up after the Sox). Pitching poorly and then complaining about his contract in public, is unseemly and arrogant and selfish. The Sox have had their share of Prima Donnas over the years, but Pedro seems to be bent on being the biggest of all. Good Ridance.....

here we go again. martinez is, arguably, among the elite pitchers in baseball history. at conservative interest, he earned more from last year's salary than most middle class americans will earn in a LIFETIME. but it's not about money, it's about respect. right. hey pedro, respect ME. just pitch and shut the **** up!

What timing! The team was playing great and this comes out. It seems to me that if you are making the kind of money Pedro is making he can relax and play ball. If the Red Sox don't want to sign him SOMEONE WILL. The bottom line is that no one needs to listen to this now. Don't get me wrong, we love Pedro and it would be a shame for him to be somewhere else next season. Let's play this season first.

Bench him for a bad attitude.......he's not winning anyway and his negativity is ruining the Nation. He's a short-tempered, pampered whiner.

Deb, Framingham

Maybe the Sox should Pedro on 48-hour irrevocable waivers just to see if anyone will pick up a past-his-peak pitcher for $17.5M. If all the other teams pass, just like they did on Manny, maybe Pedro'll stop whining and start winning (unlike what he did on Saturday where he got deservedly slammed by the Rangers' bats).

Could someone please boo him extra loud for me on his next Fenway start......trade him and get some quality young talent who appreciate playing in Boston

Someone ought to remind Pedro that, during his tenure in the Majors, every team that has won the World Series did it without him on the team.

Although he's acting like a baby, it's in the Sox best interest to sign him. We do need to show him some respect for having been the BEST PITCHER in baseball over the last 4 years. Veritek is just starting to become over-rated, his value is the highest it'll ever be. Let him go, get Nomar and Pedro back. We won't be able to afford D Lowe. So, let Pedro whine his way to 20 more wins a season for the next four years in a Sox uniform.
