Pedro prepared to walk?

Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season.

We asked what you thought of the ace's comments, and Red Sox Nation spoke out in droves. Check out our reader comments.

One more reason why Pedro should go- I have full confidence that Theo can take that $17M next year and bring in 1 or 2 pitchers that will give us the 14 wins that Pedro brought last year. Sorry Petey, and thanks for the memories- they were great (especially '98)

If Pedro was a team player, he would just shut up and pitch instead of constantly whining when it suits his purposes.

I'm tired of Pedro's whining. There's been a salary correction and he's not worth what he is getting paid this year. Pay him $1 more than Schilling. If he turns it down, let him walk.

Good riddance and a final word to Pedro...there is no "I" in team!!!!

Hey Petey - Buh-bye

Sox have let the best slip away for years...Ruth, Lynn, Fisk, Eckersley, Bagwell, Clemens. Nomar, Varitek, Lowe will soon follow and as long as this continues "the curse" will reign. I thought management could be a nice change, but I'm not impressed with this move nor having to spend the highest amount to take the family to see America's past time. Yet, devoted Boston fans will continue to bend over and pack the house and wallets of those who apply the shaft.

I love Pedro, but spoiled antics like his wreck this great game. Shut it, my fickle friend, and enjoy your fantastic job in the beautiful city of Boston.

I don't think Pedro's bluffing and that's fine with me. If he goes, we'll still have a rotation that other teams would kill for. Pedro's a terrific pitcher and he's made an immeasurable contribution to the team since he's been here, but his long-term arm health is questionable. Plus frankly, I'm just so tired of his pronouncements and public ultimata to the Red Sox front office. He's one of the best treated players in baseball and he's gotten away with behavior that most other players could not. Let's wish him well, send him off and spend his contract money on keeping Nomar, Varitek and Ortiz.

Dear fellow members of the Nation, Who cares? Pedro has been complaining for seven years. As long as he pitches well and remains committed to the team (nothing in his previous comments suggests that he isn't committed), the Red Sox clubhouse chemistry will remain intact. People, we are in first place (at least at the time of this writing we are). Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the season. We'll worry about this whole mess next fall.
