Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season. Page 30 The guy can barely hit 90 on the radar gun and he wants to get paid $14 million a year? Give me a break!! I wouldn't pay him 10 million, his arm is ready to fall off, he is going to need Tommy John surgery! If I was Theo Epstein I would simply tell him-"There's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out". Hopefully he will take the other whiner Nomar with him! Marc, Boston Baseball has consumed my life as long as I can remember. At age 63, and having spent my time educating young people and coaching, I just can't fathom anyone being dissatisfied making 17 million per year. It really seems to be an ego trip among the players to be recognized as the most overpaid player in the league. I began my teaching career making $4100 per year but I didn't have the strongest union in the world to represent me, should I attempt to take my talents to another school and be paid considerably more. If it is Pedro's desire to remain a Red Sox player as he professes, then maybe he should get rid of the agent and negotiate on his own behalf. He could reduce his demand by the amount that the agent would scrape off the top. If every player would look at the "team" and work with management to make sure that the core players stayed together, the whole system would benefit. Just how much money is "enough". I am a died in the wool Red Sox fan. I even purchased Directv so that I could watch the Sox as I enjoy retirement. However, I am becoming very disenchanted with the game as it exists, with all the whining and complaining that goes on with the players. It was always my aspiration to be manning second base at Fenway Park. I would play at any salary just to be able to put a Sox uniform on. Why can't the players understand how privileged they are to be living a dream that is held by many. On a related note, I used to make the trek to Fenway Park from Pennsylvania yearly to enjoy the surroundings and the excitement that goes with it. The time has passed however where I can afford to come to the park and bring another Sox fan with me. The cost of a ticket has increased to the point where is doesn't fit into my budget anymore. If Pedro and others really care about the fans they should take a look at this. It doesn't take a genius to be able to investigate the rising cost of attending and realize that it is getting out of hand. Thank you for allowing me to vent my frustration with the state of affairs in baseball. I am not sure just how long I am going to stomach all if this whining! Bob , Huntingdon, PA 16652 Pedro should just grow up , shut up , and play baseball and concetrate on winning a world series and let the chips fall at the end of season. He's not the only one on the team who's contract is up at the end of the season. If you played for me I would get you off the team and out of town as soon as possible because all you do is whine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rick, Salem NH I doubt that George Steinbrenner would take such a player off of Boston's hands. They've always had a "team" in NY unlike Boston. Pedro just wouldn't fit into that locker room - he's been a primadona and has been treated that way. The Red Sox Management over the years should be ashamed of themselves for letting him get away with what he's gotten away with. Yankee Fan from Massachusetts FEED HIM TO THE YANKEE THEY WILL BITE !!! Jaime Baseball has been very very good to Pedro, just be a man ,and do whats right for the team,SHUT UP AND PLAY BALL,next year you can GO!!!!!!90 million over how many years,George Steinbreener will pay you, just give us one more year OF WIENING and you can visit periodically,VIA the Bronx, give my regards to RAMONE David , North Reading Let him go - his whining and lack of an arm makes me think he should be traded now. Let the Yankees have 'em - the entire team would be better off. MEH, Durham, NC Enuf is enuf! Let Pedro walk. He has been inconsistent and mainly "off" since the AL play-offs last fall. He seems like a rotten apple now and I trust RS management will protect the rest of the good fruit. Can a player, under contract ,be traded? Elaine, Boston Baseball has been very very good to Pedro, just be a man ,and do whats right for the team,SHUT UP AND PLAY BALL,next year you can GO!!!!!!90 million over how many years,George Steinbreener will pay you, just give us one more year OF WIENING and you can visit periodically,VIA the Bronx, give my regards to RAMONE David , North Reading don't let pedro walk. trade him to the expos. unfortunately they can't afford his overpriced whiney butt. it would be true justice to see him in montreal (puerto rico) playing in front of 3,000 fans and not getting the attention of the millions of fans that he so craves. sorry, i meant millions of dollars. dump him like he just dumped red sox nation. jim, shelton ct.
