Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season. Page 36 Pedro's a loser on a team full of them. Don't come to the Yanks, we don't want you! EVER! Chris, New York City How come we don't hear Varitek, Lowe, Nomar and Ortiz whining if they getting "disssed" by management. At least they have enough common sense and respect to keep that private CP, cp@yahoo.com If Pedro wants to win then he should seriously consider leaving the Red Sox. I don't want him with the Yanks. But if he is content with second place finishes then he is right at home right now. GM, Fla Similar to the NBA, where players often show the top of their games in the last year of their contracts, I believe Sox management wants to get these guys in that mindset. Keeping them hungry to perfrom will definitely propel their championship run. I feel they'll give these players their due, maybe not all the scheduled free agents, but they certainly aren't going to let them all walk. They can't afford to let them walk. Especially when we have to play "keep-away" from George. You know if we don't pay players like Pedro and Nomar, there is that likelihood that George will put them in pinstripes. And I am damn sure that I do not want to go against the Yanks in a hypothetical 2005 Game 7 ALCS facing Pedro!!! We have the 2 best pitchers in big-game situations--Pedro and Curt. It's the garbage games that Pedro needs to get his stuff together, and show that he is truly untouchable. So, keep them hungry, let's keep on winning, and after we have that parade, they'll get paid. Paul, New Jersey I think we can let him go. He's not throwing what he used to be, and now that we have Schilling, I'm not as worried as I would be. Our pitching staff this year is much better than any other year that I have seen. Just lets make sure we can keep D. Lowe too now that Pedro is ready to walk. Keri , Randolph I can understand Pedro's point. Teams are always looking for a quality #2 or #3 man in the rotation. He should draw some serious attention from teams like the Twins and Padres. Fred , Rockland Two things: 1. Take Pedro on a long, extended tour of the DR and point out to him the people living in complete poverty, dressing in clothes left behind by tourists that's full of holes and stains, digging through piles of trash, living in houses not big enough to be our bathrooms, and giving tours or selling handmade jewelry with fishing twine and cheap beads to make a buck. 2. Then, have Tom Brady, Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi, Curt Schilling, Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek give him a loooooooooooonggggggg talk about the meaning of 'team.' Leeanne, N. Dighton Pedro bringing up contract now proves he is hurting physically and is scared of "being on his back at 32 years of age" like his brother Ramon which is why he is demanding contract now, I say trade him now for a another starter that wont affect the chemistry. CJ , Pembroke NH Pedro should step back and take a good look at his life. He is playing the game he loves and making millions doing it! I think this man has some serious problems. I also think he has become too big a distraction for the team and all of us out here!! Lifelong Fan, Dennis The Sox should let Pedro go. He is going to ask for too much. They should sign Tek, Dlowe, Ortiz and Nomar. They have a #1 in Schilling, #2 in Dlowe and # 3 in Wakefield with Kim and Arroyo. They could go get another 1 or 2 pitcher. In this instance the needs of the many (Tek, Dlowe, Ortiz, Nomar and the Nation) outweight the needs of the one (Pedro). He may say he wants to stay but he isn't pulling a Trot to stay. He'll stay if you sacrifice the team for him. Let him go.
