Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season. Page 37 I think that Pedro has opened his big mouth once too many times. He did this on purpose as always. He is a selfish man and the Sox should get rid of him. He is no better than a Carl Everett in the clubhouse. If they don't rid themselves of him now, it could be the season. This is not what they needed. I would recomment the Red Sox spend about a million dollars saved from the 17 1/2 million to buy Pedro all kinds of mirrors to install in his home so he could worship all that appears valuable to him. Bill, Braintree Pedro may (and I emphasize the word may) be a great pitcher, but he is an absolutely hideous employee. He is accusing the Sox ownership of lying; he's the liar. He gives that sly little smirk when he implies that it was Larry Luchino who dismantled Baltimore (it wasn't, it was Peter Angelos) and that it was John Henry who broke up the Marlins (it wasn't, it was Wayne Huizenga.) He also has the reputation of being intelligent (smart like a fox is the term usually used); I think he's an outright idiot. How can it benefit anyone--himself included--to pop off about his contract extension and free agency at this point? There is absolutely nothing to be gained from it.
