Pedro Martinez, in comments to the media, Friday declared "enough is enough" and closed the door on contract negotiations with the Sox, saying he will enter free agency after the season.

Why do we continue to put up with this guy? The way he's pitching, let him go, and we still have the best rotation in baseball. He's a trouble maker, a distraction, and for christ's sake, he's making what, 17, 18 MILLION dollars a year??? What in the name of god can this guy ask for on top of what he already has? Every year he has some kind of emergency in the DR - it would be cheaper to move his whole damn family to Boston! I say, let him go, and we go after RJ.

Pedro is past his prime, he should not be getting a contract anywhere near the 90m, his current contract totaled out to be. Pedro is still good, but looking at the staffs out there in the National and American leagues, there are some young studs out there. The sox should be looking in that direction for the future.

Having watched and rooted for the SOX for more than 60 years, I think these overpaid crybabies ought to bless the world they live in, that allows them to be given the unbelievable contracts they have. Too many of them should be forced to " get a job", and stop the attitudes. NONE of them are worth the money they get.

I think Pedro knows how to push our buttons. He knows that the thought of him going to the Damn Yankees will drive us nuts and he is using it as a bargaining chip to up the ante on his salary. We have stuck by him through think and thin, and if he thinks he will be more appreciated more than he is by us red sox fans...let him go dig his own hole.

Pedro must throw each pitch with maximum effort to be effective. Therefore, he is unable to pitch effectively after the 5th or 6th inning. He can not be rated as the ace of anyone"s staff. His performance does not justify spending and overly amount for his limited service.

If we resign him he is sure to blow his arm out and be done like his older brother. If we don't sign him he'll go on to win a Cy Young award with the Yankees. Either way we are doomed.

Pedro is still a great pitcher, but he's on the downslope of his career. He wants security-a long term contract with salaries as high as any other pitcher in the game. He panders the fans-but his salary demands will only push Fenway ticket prices too high for thousands of more fans to afford. The timing of his comments are strategic as far as his career goes, but lousy as far as the team goes-too distracting. I want to see him stay, but I am really disappointed in his attitude.

Pedro doesn't care where he pitches; however, do not take this as an endorsement of the Sox front office. Theo is no genius (Duquette for all of his faults is as much responsible for this team as he is). Lucchino and Henry are Yankee wanna-bees. Do we really want the Sox to be just like the Yankees? Having said that, Pedro's career is going to be over soon. The Sox know it and so does he.
