Talk about a June swoon. We can't think of two worse back-to-back losses than the ones the Red Sox suffered Tuesday and Wednesday nights, simply dreadful. Terry Francona seems to be making all the wrong decisions and players are fielding like they've got "Chico's Bail Bonds" ironed on the back of their jerseys. To make matters worse, these losses were to the Yankees, and dropped Boston 7½ games behind New York in the AL East, the largest deficit since Grady Little's crew fell that low last August. Things don't appear to be getting any better, either. The Sox were 11-14 in the month of June, and may have lost setup man Scott Williamson with an elbow injury Wednesday night. The doctor isn't in, but feel free to sit on our couch and vent your feelings on the Sox. Can they turn this around? How? What are they doing wrong? Is this Francona's fault, or does the blame lie higher up the chain with Theo and the Trio? Or are the players to blame? Trade Nomar? Acquire a first baseman? Bring back Grady? It's open season ... Page 6 toughest loss of the season, no doubt. And i'm sorry Timlin is mad about the fans getting angry, but hey, right now there isn't much too laugh or be happy about. The yankees will not slow down, so if we are indeed challenging for the AL title, we need to play amazing baseball for the next 3months, not just above average. peter, dennis Boston have a chance after all: MOVE TO JAPAN! Art, New York This was without a doubt the toughest loss of the season. I will take any of those 20-1 games vs. LA over last night. Wakefield pitched a great game, nobody can say different. As soon as Nixon was out of the game, McCarthy should have gone to first, moving Ortiz to DH. Do I think Ortiz should have made that play? Maybe. But he's not on the team for defense, and I think it was a very tough play for a left hander. And what is all this BS about Nomar "shaking off the rust?" A ground ball is the same now, as it was when he was 5. Things haven't changed. He has no excuse not to make those plays. It was also a tough play, but if it's throwing the ball in the dirt to a guy that maybe won't scoop it, versus holding onto it, that's a no brainer. That is what makes Jeter better, he would have held onto it. And speaking of Jeter, why are the Sox not allowed to bunt? Is that against our team policy? And don't get me started on Francona, anybody that heard his stint on WEEI yesterday knows what I'm talking about. peter, boston Trade Nomar? Bring back Grady? Neither of these options seem to make sense to me. Nomar is having a tough time at short, maybe switch him and Reece, but don't get rid of Nomar and his bat, be patient. As for Grady Little, we already ruined the chances of him EVER coming back to Bean Town. We had to blame the curse on somebody last fall, so why not blame it on the classy manager who did nothing but leave our ACE in the game? I have an idea. We're Red Sox fans, lets start pressing the panic button, and start making excuses for everything. In fact, lets even open a message board where we can "vent" all day long about how bad our team is, and this and that. No, I think we need to start concentrating on baseball, and more specifically, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Lord knows we will not take first place from the almighty Yankees. But maybe, just maybe, we can get into the playoffs and blow it again. Ahhh, I love being a Sox fan. 1918=misery. Joe , North Quincy Low expectations until Francona is gone. It is a shame that in this VERY important year (pending free agency), they have this schmuck leading the ship. Flroida changed managers mid-season last year and won the whole thing. C'mon Theo, you're running out of time!!! Keith, Beverly, MA Its friggin July people, JULY! Stop whining. They will get it back together. Sox nation cracks me up, when things go bad everybody panics and starts talking. When things are even a little good everybody is on the Sox are hero's kick. If this was September ok, but untill then, and untill there out of it,, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todd , Wilmington The sox are wonderful in springtime but when its moneytime the team as in past teams buckle under the pressure... The curse of the babe is ever present.... ed, new seabury, mass. I am concerned about how the Red Sox are doing. what games i get to see here in Cda I don'y see that intensity from last year. and the only real loss from last year is Walker (but i like pokey at second or short)..all i've seen or heard since last nite is the error by Ortiz.. but the plus side is the games he has won with his bat. Maybe a trade that sends a regular some where else would wake them up. something sure has to turn around NOW. Duane, Hartland, NB. Cda The manager does not know how to manage an offence, so he sits back and justs hits away. No bunts no hit and runs just swing, and no need to be selective. You need to manage the offence to round out the slow offensive games. Fire Tino now PS Unless we get a 1st basemen please just put McCarty out there. Kenneth, Hudson NH The Sox are paying the price of Francona's in difference to discipline.
