No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Apparently, Lou Gorman has taken over the Sox. What happened to Theo Epstein? When did he become an idiot?

this is the worst trade ever. they traded a 320 hitter who is our cleanup hitter and the face of our franchise for the past 8 or 9 years for a couple of 246 hitters. nomar hit more home runs in 70 less games, not to mention i wouldnt even start mientkiewics over millar. so basically we traded our cleanup guy for a couple of number 9 hitters, real smart while derrick lowe is still on the team!

Idiotic. I hope the Globe staff is happy. They have been clamoring for this all season. The Yankees have enough money to trade away talent and buy more. We don't.

I absolutely cannot believe this. Nomar is more than just a great baseball player, he embodied everything Red Sox baseball is all about. This will be a very unpopular move for Theo and the owners, because you just don't trade a guy like Nomar. I do not think they are better off. These 2 guys they got in return will not even come close to filling Nomar's contribution to the Red Sox organization. Even if the Sox (ever) win the World Series, it will be never be the same without Nomar.

God NOOOOOO! PLEASE!!! Say it ain't so.

The Sox are not better off. They've traded a perennial all-star for two mediocre players. Their lineup cannot be as good now: not only do they lack an offensive threat from the shortstop, but they cannot play Ortiz, Millar, and Kapler/Nixon at once anymore. They've now have a solid defensive first baseman, but it wasn't worth two productive spots in the lineup

only if they offered him another contract and he rejected it. Then Yes.

It's a travesty. Aside from the fact that the Sox should have done everything they could to re-sign Nomar, they didn't get nearly enough for him (and Murton?!). Despite Duquette's personality flaws, he would have gotten much more for Nomar. My god -- we trade the only man on the team who ran to first on a ground ball.... Sigh.

Awful. I feel betrayed. I'm selling the rest of the tickets I bought for this year, except maybe the game on Aug. 9... their next home game and my first chance to go boo the crap out of them.

Nomar or no mas? Nomar for the rumored starter from the Cubs made sense. If the Sox win it all, this will be a footnote. If they don't, Theo will have Bucknered. A fan since 1960 when living on Queensberry St. I have been through all the joys and sorrows of the post-Ted era. Some good players have left Boston and done very well elesewhere. Although I dislike fantasy baseball because you have to root for individual players who might be Yankees, I wish Nomar the best and will continue to follow his career. He left it all on the field, like Yaz.
